I was interested in learning Spanish and finally took lessons. This book was recommended by my Spanish teacher and I can see why.There are 15 short stories in total organized under:- Scary Stories- Tricksters- Strong Women- MythsThe stories start with english, followed by the spanish version. I like that the stories are bite-sized, meaning I can read both versions in one go pretty easily.Like another reviewer said, I do wish that they put english on one side, spanish on the other so I could go back and forth a little more easily. I found I kept flipping between the two language versions, but the stories themselves were engaging, quick, and offered good insight into spanish folklore.Overall reading the book helped with my reading comprehension, and was a good supplement to learning basic vocabulary by memorizing words. Even better would be an audio version to go alongside :)

This wonderful collection of short stories is ideal for either learning Spanish for the first time, or, as in my case, reviewing the language over 20 years after first studying it. The stories are interesting, with a mixture of commonly-used words and unusual ones. Having both Spanish and English versions side by side makes it very easy to go back and forth to check the meanings of unfamiliar words. I love it!

who teaches mostly Hispanic children, I have used this book extensively over my 13 years of teaching. The kids always ask me to read them another story from here. Also, because it is in English and Spanish, it has helped me improve my Spanish vocabulary.

Learning a new language would be a whole lot easier if the stories alternated language on each side, ie Spanish on the left page, English on the right. Putting the entire story in the same language makes it harder to learn words when you can't glance at the opposite page. I'm surprised they didn't think of this! =(

Very nice book, I really like the book cover and I like the illustrations. I only glanced inside the book but have not read it as yet. It will be a gift to my Granddaughter.
