Definitely Worth the additional effort to get it to work!
I have been waiting for this for a week. I am used to Prime, so waiting for it to arrive was the first issue. When it did arrive, it was packed well, but somehow the switch had been damaged in shipping. There was a rattle, and you could clearly tell it was the switch, as it had zero tactile feel of a lever switch, it was loose. So I plugged it in, and nothing. no light, although the dryer did work, but the box was acting like an extension cord, no capacitance or KVAR effect produced.I was going to return it, but didn't want to wait anymore to play with my new gadget...so I fixed it as follows:I am a tinkerer by nature, and have never been afraid to work on something, I also have a good understanding of electric circuits, the dangers of electricity, and the ultra danger of a charged capacitor. Therefore, I do not recommend anyone doing what I did.I was so frustrated that I decided to drill out the rivets holding the door on. To my satisfaction, I found the back of the cheapo switch was pushed off, rendering the switch useless, and the rocker mechanism was the rattler in the box. So off to ACE Hardware I went to get a new rocker switch. Whilst I was in the box, I decided to drill out the receptacle rivets and reattach all the connectors, this because drilling the original rivets left metal shavings inside the box, and I wanted to thoroughly clean the interior before use. I didn't want to take any risk of a short. That done, I reassembled the box using U-Clips and screws. adding my $6 switch to the circuit.I mounted it, and connected the dryer to the KVAR, and the KVAR to the wall receptacle. I flipped the switch, and the box went BOOM....no just kidding. (Shout out to L'Trimm Song from '88 - "Cars That Go Boom" )The light came on, and the dryer works just fine. Will I see a reduction on my electric bill? I am suspecting that I will. My whole home electric monitor is showing a slightly smaller draw when the switch is on as opposed to when it is off. Also, I may be hallucinating, but I swear the rhythm of the dryer motor seems to be smoother with the KVAR active. As well as my ceiling fans starting up with less noise than before.I went ahead and kicked on the Central Air Fan to see if that also had a lower draw, and usually when it kicks on it has that straining electric motor sound. But with the KVAR on it didn't make the same noise as before...the monitor also showed a HUGE difference in the draw in that circuit as well. I didn't test the A/C compressor, as I plan to buy another for it, and will report afterwards.I just wanted to say that I am sure the seller shipped me a good switch, because the box was dented, I think shipping had damaged the switch. Maybe a foam piece over the switch would eliminate this in the future...Bottom Line; It works.
