TevaMen's Winsted S Sports and Outdoor Sandal

These came up slightly bigger in size but are lovely and comfortable.

Having previously lived in SW France for several years, I regularly bought sandals for summer and year round use. Looking back over my orders, these were invariably models from Karrimor.Prior to my current trip I found that my size was not available and I ordered this Teva model - fairly confident that they, as originators of high priced, over-specified sandals, would provide a wearable alternative.They turn out to be an object lesson in everything you didn't know could be wrong with a sandal.The straps are mean and pretty much the exact width of the sharp and unyielding velcro backing tape. The (unadjustable) heel strap has a thin (possibly adequate) area of padding - being a low high-point of comfort on these excruciating shoes.Moving forward, the strap over the top of the foot is sharp-edged, thin and inflexible. It would, in itself, be a reliable source of chafing and pain if the toe strap ever allowed for remotely prolonged use. It doesn't, being unpadded, similarly sharp and thin. It sets the limit for how long these sandals can be worn. In my case, a few hundred yards were enough to remove the skin on my right little toe, with similar damage beginning on the left. The Karrimors have a (?) neoprene pad here - sometimes irritatingly bent down but, when working, providing comfort in this area of potential friction.As a final straw on the cake, the Tevas end their velcro adjusters not with an easily gripped and lifted tab but a low lying extension of naked velcro - brilliantly making it as difficult as possible to detach and adjust.Matters may be different (see positive reviews) for some but I don’t have one good thing to say about the Teva Winsteds.

The sole is hard enough to not feel stones when walking. Was surprised to find back strap is fixed I think to accommodate heel pad so OK. My feet are wide but these can accommodate and were comfortable for walking about 3 miles on first outing. I suspect not for hiking but fine for that distance. Remind me of a set of Reefs I had years ago but which are no longer made in this quality. Extremely pleased to have found these with quality I would have expected to pay more for.

I've worn Tevas for over 30 years. The basic ones have looked after me in numerous overseas trips and no matter what the environment (let's exclude the winter snow one), they have done the job. I wore out my last pair walking around Disney, where they were just fantastic. In that hot environment they excel. You do end up with 'Teva Tan' where your foot bears the distinctive lines from the straps, but you will not be disappointed. The size is as per your shoe.

I love Teva sandals and have always been a great fan. I bought these to replace the same style that I had ten years ago. The sandals were still structurally fine but there was no bounce left in the sole. The new sandals fit great and have generous Velcro straps which work brilliantly. The only thing missing from the same style of ten years ago is the padding where the straps meet your toes. I do miss this and my toes are currently sore - although they may toughen up after a few weeks! Never had this problem before. But still the best sandals I have ever bought!

Just a very brief word to say that TEVA's are by far my favourite sandles.The Winsted sandles were priced at about half of the other thick-soled Teva sandles so I was a little dubious about that would arrive. The only reason to get new ones is that my old ones fell apart after 16 years of constant wear.I am delighted. They are plane grey which is actually much nicer, I think than the patterned ones. The sole is as good as the more expensive ones and the red on the sole makes them quite striking. They are less hippy-looking than some on the other Teva sandles.The fit very well, are super comfortable and I am delighted to have found replacements for my old ones with the same quality but about half the price.Recommended - much cheaper than others and just the same quality!!
