Incredible book... Lovely pictures throughout that keeps me going back for another perusal. Sometimes it's nice to put the screen down and pick up a physical book and casually thumb through. Many of these species are on a comeback, which is terrific for future generations.Looks great on shelf with the Photo Ark books

Quality book beautiful images good coffee table book for casual viewing

A small book with huge insight concerning America's Endangered Species. These photographs represent the 20-year-long mission of National Geographic photographer Joel Sartore to record North American species facing extinction. Through them, Sartore makes a passionate appeal to all of us to protect our endangered wildlife.

Joel Sartore is a genius when it comes to capturing the personality of these beautiful wild animals. We are so lucky to have him doing his job and he does it well. I own a few of his books and my children and grandchildren pour over them often. Well worth the $ to view and appreciate what is right here on this Earth. We need to be able to let these gorgeous creatures wander about the Earth in their natural habitats, if possible. Not destroy the species for a moment of 'owning' them.

This is a beautiful book with amazing photos of our endangered species, helps to identify the need for us to advocate for their protection.

This book is not intended as a scientific treatise. You could get more information about the animals and plants that it covers elsewhere. It's an artistic effort to help us to appreciate and identify with those creatures whose existence is endangered by our carelessness and eagerness to exploit our environment for our own short-term benefit. It will reach people who already have an appreciation for the beauty and variety of God's creation, whether they believe that God had anything to do with it or not. To those who can't see what's going on out there and care less, I'm afraid that it won't change their minds. Maybe someday it will help their children to see what they have lost. Or, hopefully, might have lost but wound up preserving. In either case, it's a beautiful book and worth keeping on the coffee table. Someone may pick it up and start to think.

I have never seen a book like this and it is wonderful. The pictures are beautiful and the information priceless. I will keep this one until the end of my days--can't stop looking at it.

I was able to hear the author speak, and he signed this book for me. He is doing an amazing job of making it his life's work to photograph as many endangered species before they become extinct. There is one kind of toad that is the last one in the world, and is much older than they normally live to be. There are only four white rhinos left, and they are surrounded by guards to try to protect them from poaches and extinction. It breaks my heart to know we are killing these magnificent creations because of humanities greed at any cost to the environment.
