Excellent photos and a very good explanation of the religious, artistic and cultural development of Chinese Buddhist art in the context of the successive political changes occurring in China itself.An interesting final section on the preservation and the management of the caves for tourism.

This book is very good.

Écrit en grande partie par le Getty Institute et la Getty Academy, ce livre revet surtout un intérêt si l’on cherche des informations sur l’histoire de la grotte, de sa découverte et de ses déboires... et enfin des projets de conservation mis en place. Les photos des fresques sont finalement rares, très petites et inexploitables pour un artiste ou un féru d’art asiatique. Les recherche d’image sur internet donnent de meilleurs résultats. Laissez vous plutôt tenter par le superbe « Buddhist Paintings of Tun-Huang » du Musée National de New Delhi qui vous apporte des reproductions inédites sur le web et un contenu intéressant.
