purchased as a prop. like that is a one piece gavel so there will be no separation of handle from top, etc. because it is plastic, it's lightweight.

Great looking realistic gavel at a cheap price. If you need to bang the gavel & have a realistic sound don't buy this gavel. Of course it is not wood it's plastic and sounds like plastic.

It's a little oversized and looks like plastic, but it's about what you'd expect for the price. It's fine for a costume, but if you really want to imitate a gavel you might want to go for something a little sturdier, or something made from real wood. This is hollow plastic and is a gavel in looks only.

Is it a gavel? Yes. Does it look anywhere near as good as the picture? Absolutely not.First of all, it is a hollow plastic. This means it's only useful as a visual prop. If you try to bang it like a gavel, it sounds awful.The plastic also doesn't have the wood-like ridges that the picture shows. It looks very much like plastic. The lack of wood ridges was the most egregious offense in my opinion.There is also a serial number printed in white paint on one of the faces of the gavel. This makes it look even cheaper.

I ordered 100 of these to use as part of a party favor for a victory celebration on being elected to a judge position. We put candy coated almonds in a small box and used a ribbon to tie the box to the gavel. It went over very well with the guests. This was by far the most economical gavel I could find.

I used this for a one-time prop, and it worked fine for my purpose. And for the very inexpensive price, you can't expect it to look like it's made of solid mahogheny. However if you want a gavel that looks at least semi-authentic, this is not the gavel for you. From the picture, it looks much more authentic than it does in person. Honestly, it couldn't look much cheaper if it was a large dog's chew toy. But again, if you only want it for something silly or perhaps for a child's school project this will be fine. And due to the very inexpensive cost, you won't feel bad tossing it afterward. (Not sure if it actually IS safe enough to be a chew toy for your dog.)

Was worried it would be a cheap plastic. Super excited to see it was a hard sturdy plastic. Color was nice. We used to go with my mijita's RBG Halloween costume.

Served the purpose as a prop for law graduation party, it was plastic but for the price can't complain.
