Shred your cheese, not your fingertips with this handheld rotary grater. Simply put cheese, nuts, or chocolate into the top, grab with one hand and turn the crank with the other. The side ejector delivers the grated goods right where you want it. The Zyliss Classic Cheese Grater is designed to grate more cheese in less time while being more comfortable to use. Used table-side in restaurants and households alike. Comes with a fine drum for grating hard cheeses, chocolate, nuts and more. The grating drum is now easier to remove for cleaning. NSF Restaurant Certified.

Quality is hard to find
I bought a Zyliss Rotary Cheese Grater 15 years ago and used it thousands of times for dinner. It was the best. After 15 years, the soft grey handle fell off and I thought the grater was getting dull. I looked over the reviews of their newfangled models and they were disappointing. So I was happy to see the Classic was still available. Alas, it is not. This imposter has square, non ergonomic edges, and is obviously a cheaper iteration. It is not yet ready to fall out of a bubble gum machine, but the manufacturer is heading in that direction. It does grate cheese, and the sharp corner jabs at my hand. The capacity is a tad smaller, and so is my opinion of Zyliss.

At an Olive garden restaurant I asked to buy a creese grater, which the manager sold me. It was this item. I have since purchased many from Amazon to give as gifts, along witl Italian cheese. Rest assured that of the many graters available, olive Garden chose this one and it is used daily at hundreds of Olive Gardens. It is truely a professional quality item. Works grate, you will not find a grater grater. (pun intended).

Good for only hard cheeses
It's a nice grater for parmesan or hard cheeses but it's only one drum, so it's a fine grated cheese. Do not get this if you want grated cheddar etc...won't work.

Classic vs. Classic NSF Restaurant cheese grater
We recently broke our Zyliss grater of many years. We ordered first the ZYLISS Classic Rotary Cheese Grater - NSF Restaurant, which we immediately disliked, and then this Zyliss Classic. The screw into the grating drum is a bit shorter on this update compared to our old one, so the handle has a tendency to fall off, but compared to the NSF Restaurant it's incredible. This does a nice smooth job of grating, with little of the jerky- jerky movement of the NSF. It also has minimal tendency to produce long thin shreds of cheese. A problem with the long threads of cheese is that when you tap the grater to get out residual cheese the threads stay attached to the drum. On the NSF there are 4 spaces of about 3/8" which gives a very uneven sensation as you rotate. This one does as well, but the rows of holes/ cutters are angled as opposed to straight across, so you always have contact with the cutting edge on cheese. The size and the shape of the cutting hole is smaller and round as opposed to square, which is why this grates more than shreds. This one has the impactor with a straight leading edge, as apposed to the leading edge with grooves which fit into corresponding teeth on the body of the grater. We use the grater primarily to grate parmesan cheese for pasta and Caesar's salad. We do 1/2 to 1 cup at a time. We also use it to grind the cheese rinds to put on our dogs' food. We've only had it a week or so, time will tell if it holds up like the old one. If you like your cheese shredded as opposed to grated, you will probably like the NSF restaurant.

Cheaper Zyliss available but this is the one to buy
I was nervous about buying this product because of some of the negative reviews. The first thing I did after receiving the product was inspecting the drum making sure it didn't have cutouts but have pressed indentations for the grating. This drum feels solid. Remember when using it do not reverse the direction because this is how you unscrew the handel and take it apart to clean. This is easy to clean. If you have sticky stuff put it to soak for about 5 minutes in warm soapy water and wipe it down. After that I throw it in the dishwasher. Could easily be hand washed if you prefer. So far have used it multiple times for grinding walnuts and Parmesan cheese. Soft cheese will not work. Because of having problems with my hands it took a couple of tries to get my hands in the correct position to been able to put enough pressure on the handle and not hit my knokkels with the handlebar. It would have been nice it you could reverse the hands used but this design does not allow that.

Great grating!
I first saw this type of hard cheese grater in a restaurant near Denver in 1994. I started looking for one and eventually found. Bought for myself, kids and other family members. Just bought another one for a friend and he loves it. A little grated cheese is such a flavor boost for many dishes and this is the perfect tool to produce your own grated cheese - no plastic coating, no dry cardboard crumbs like you get in groceries. Fluffy fragrant piles of delicious cheese!

Classic grater, highly recommend
I bought one of these decades ago and it still works as if it was new. I got this one for my son. It's easy to disassemble for putting in the dishwasher and storage in a drawer. There are newer models, but I don't think you can improve on a classic.

It ain’t easy getting cheesy
Used this grater for the first time to make nachos. The first plate started off ok, but then the cheese wasn’t coming out anymore. It had formed a clog in the tiny opening and the cheese backed up so tight I had to dig it out with a butter knife. my grated cheese was once again a clump. I had to clean it to use it and the second time it backed up again. Would not recommend.

Best Parmasian Grater Around
You Gotta Get one of these if you use a lot of Cheese in cooking recipes... I've tried a few CH Clone knockoffs of this device, and this is the Original, that they Tried to copy, and Failed, ( miserably, if their intention was to make one that would last more than a few uses before something Snapped off, rendering it Useless... ! )Works best on harder cheeses. Soft cheeses like Mozzarella ( not really cheese ) or warm Cheddar, will gum up in a ball inside.. But for Reggiano, this thing Rules !

Very good quality product
I have had few of the junk shredder that are on the market. They don’t last badly design, and build very cheap. I can say your shredder is in a class by itself. Quality is amazing the design is what it should be. So easy to use the handle is located just right, so it doesn’t hit your finger at every turn. The cylinder is made of good quality and sturdy. I have no aspiration to recommend your product. I would not hesitate to purchase your product again.

Excellent Quality, Great Price
I ordered this to replace an existing Zyliss cheese grater that broke on me after a number of years. Was a bit leering about ordering a similar one as my previous one had broken but though maybe I'd have some backup parts. Have to say the quality of this generation of the product is much more durable. So durable I threw out the spare parts I had. For a combination of price and functionality it's hard to beat...and I use it a lot.

Durable and reliable
Had one for almost a decade. Use it for grating hard cheese and some spices such as cloves and nutmeg. I often disassemble and put it in dishwasher top rack, which yellowed the white plastic but otherwise did not harm it. This new purchase was a gift because I know and use the product.
