The Duff [Blu-ray + DVD + Digital HD]

Hillarious yet deep..
The comedic movie, The Duff, is hilarious, relatable and worth watching. The film is about high-school senior Bianca, played by Mae Whitman, who finds out that she is the DUFF (Designated Ugly Fat Friend) of her attractive group of friends.Determined to change her DUFF image and impress her crush Toby, she turns to her popular neighbor Wesley Rush, played by Robbie Amell, to give her a complete makeover. Through her journey of transformation, she gains self confidence and shows the school that everybody is a DUFF.Not only do I enjoy that the movie starts off fast, but I really like that it starts with a cool, graphic newspaper clip that explains high school and the different types of people in high school. Being a high school student myself, I was really surprised at how relatable the movie is, especially to today's generation of teenagers. It doesn't just portray the generic, stereotypical high school student that is so outdated. The movie has a lot of familiar celebrity stars that I enjoyed seeing. The performances by Mae Whitman, Robbie Amell, Allison Janney and Ken Jeong are especially hilarious and very entertaining. The movie is hilarious, yet deep. Most comedy movies are really funny, yet pointless or lack an overall message. I laughed so often and even shed a tear in a heartfelt scene. The facial expressions are priceless and memorable. I respect this film for being extremely funny while also having a deep, motivational moral lesson and theme. I enjoyed the plot and moral of the story as much the comedy. The movie has a lot of references that are very comical. One example is an episode of the Simpsons that the movie shows. The movie also has really entertaining graphics that make the movie even more unique, some of this include labels and an interactive screen effect. This film is one I will watch multiple times and tell my friends to watch, yet I do not recommend it as a family movie. The film may be inappropriate for children under the age of 13 due to inappropriate language and actions. I definitely recommend the movie for teenagers in high school, especially girls. I recommend the movie to ages between 13 and 18. I give this movie 4 out of 5 stars.

Giving it 4 stars for Robbie Amell
I'm gratified that I wasn't born in this generation. Perhaps I'm wrong and this is a parody of high school?!? Dreadful style, clothes, dialogue, and people as entertaining. Would I have liked it as a teen? I would have been a Duff...yes, that's it. Anyway, the movie has a lot of bad moments, but I wanted to see how Robbie Amell played the part and if he did it well. So, four stars for him and one shy as the script made me ill.

The Duff...
"The Duff" is a high school movie with a message and an entertaining delivery. High school senior Bianca Piper discovers she is the "DUFF" (designated ugly fat friend) of her social group, the one who makes everyone else look better. Bianca is shocked, insulted, and ultimately depressed by her situation. Anxious to turn things around, she strikes a deal with her next door neighbor Wes, the charming captain of the football team. She will help him pass Science Class; he will help her overcome her DUFF status and get the date of her dreams with an artsy fellow senior. Along the way, she will have to overcome the vicious scheming of prom queen Madison Morgan, who thinks Bianca might be making a play for Wes, the guy Madison has already picked for her own...The movie is a sometimes disturbing reveal on the perils of the I-Phone age and the rough passage that is high school. Bianca will have to decide who she is, a process that is handled with humor, a certain amount of wisdom, and some timely help from her friends, including the surprising stalwart Wes. There is a good ending, some good acting by a promising young group, and some good fun. Recommended.

I'm a guy, and I loved this video! Great Date Night Movie!
I'm a guy, and I loved this video! lol. It was so hilarious as anyone, even guys, can relate to the reverse: How nervous it was when trying to talk to that girl you liked, realizing the girl for you may be someone different. The lead actress totally nailed it - the comedic timing, jeez - the whole cast is awesome!! I busted a gut. She has feelings for, and develops a plan with a friend, to win the guy she is too nervous to talk to - just like how us guys are paranoid of the hottest chick! lol, brings back memories.I so thought this was going to be a Mean Girls rip off with Disney or Hallmark-Christmas-movie-even-though-its-not-set-at-Christmas acting but it so wasn't. My wife laughed out loud - her for the acting and me for the "oh I remember first trying to talk to that girl I sat next to...then MORTIFIED when she found out I had a crush on her"Guys - your girl makes you sit through this, you're in luck - you wont hate it, and you'll even laugh.Ladies - prepare to be taken back in time when you tried everything to get "that cute boy" to notice you.

An Amusing Surprise
If you're looking for something new in a movie, well I would recommend never going near another high school movie again, but if you are interested in this and don't mind the typical tropes of a High School coming of age story I urge you to take a gander and here's why. There are a lot of things to enjoy, one of the initial drawing points for me was Ken Jeong from Community who plays a funny, but quite sensible Newspaper...advisor? Bella Thorne does a wonderful job at the stereotypical love to hate mean girl, but she is the most glaring trope of the movie, as Mae Whitman's two gorgeous best friends are delightfully like-able, intelligent, and understanding throughout the whole flick. Robbie Amell is a nice blend of smart talking and jock that works at loosening up Mae Whitman's stressed out and overly sensitive persona over the course of the movie. This movie is silly, bordering on over the top in one scene in particular, but otherwise just seems to be keenly self aware of itself in a world with a lot of teenage focus movies. It has some clever lines, had me uttering more than just the occasional giggle, and is fun modern take on the High School classic.

Fantastic! Perfect for fans of teenage comedies!
I absolutely LOVED this movie! I'm a huge fan of the book, and while they did change an awful lot, I still really enjoyed it. The heart of the story itself is still the same, and the actors all did an amazing job at bringing these characters to life!I'd definitely recommend The DUFF to fans of the book, but I also think it's the perfect story for anyone who enjoys teenage comedies. The DUFF is funny, easy to relate to, and packed with an absolutely AMAZING cast!
