Q: Will it work on a solid zipper pull?

I am not sure what you mean . As long as there is a hole in the pull , you hook the item on and it works . You hook it on to the zip pull anc pull it up . Works great for dresses with zips at the back .

Q: Could it be left in place (down the back of a jumpsuit?) Or just look silly?

I guess it would depend on the dress. I have difficulty un hooking it once the dress is on so I have worn it pulled over my head as a necklace which looked fine. One other tip. The hook is strong but many of todays zips have tiny holes that the hook will not go through. So whilst it may not fit every zip I definitely think its worth the cost. I hope that helps
