Salonpas Pain Relieving Patch, 140 Patches

I have ordered numerous boxes over the years. I mainly use them on my hands (they easily conform to any shape) and knees. The metal salycilate provides relief from pain that isn’t there in the other varieties.Overall I am very pleased and will continue to order them. There are two problems I have experienced—one minor and one not. The minor problem is occasional adhesion failure, which is an annoyance but no big deal. The other is that a few times, the patch burned more than the gentle heat it normally gives, and when the patch was removed, the skin came with it. Eeeuuw. I am not sure who I ordered them from, and it hasn’t happened for several years, but if the patch seems abnormally hot—take it off immediately.

I have had an arthritic big toe joint for many years, actually diagnosed by my doctor after I got an X-ray. It can be quite painful and make walking difficult. The doctor prescribed a pain cream made by a local compounding pharmacy. It is expensive and provides some relief, but not as much as I need. A friend gave me a Salonpas patch to try, and it worked wonders. The patches give me much more relief than the expensive cream. I bought a box, and have since bought several more boxes. I use one every day. My wife and I square dance, and with a fresh patch I can dance for several hours. I usually apply a fresh patch before a dance and move the existing one down my foot to a new spot. I rated them 4 stars for adhesion because where I put them on my foot, they can be dislodged by activity and even putting on socks. The adhesive is gentle. I solved the problem by simply putting a strip of white adhesive tape on the top and bottom edges of the patch. They don’t work as well for everybody. My daughter gave me 3 boxes she had, because they didn’t do much for her. My advice is to buy a small box and try them, or beg one from someone you know who uses them. One was all it took to convince me. The only negative might be the smell. I think it actually gets into your bloodstream, like garlic, but much more pleasant. I can smell it at times, but I think it’s internal and not actually coming externally from the patch, which is usually inside a Wolverine work boot that I wear to help prevent flexing of my toe joint. From my own experience, I highly recommend them.

They do provide some form of analgesic relief. The sticky side could be stickier as they sometimes slide from the low back down into the butt crack. Then suddenly you feel menthol between your cheeks. It's not pleasant. Otherwise they seem to work when they don't slide away from the spot you place it.
