Les Miserables (Word Cloud Classics)

A work of sublime genius!
This book is over 1200 pages long; have patience while reading it. Do not get put off when Hugo makes long digressions from the main plot to describe the ecclesiastical, military, political, and moral milieu of those times; he is a genius; and in my opinion this is his way of making those times appear more relatable and tangible to the reader.Don’t worry too much about which translation you read; this book is and and will always be a classic. This Hapgood translation is from the 19th century-contemporaneous to when the original was first printed in French- and if you like reading Dickens, Hardy, Thackeray etc. you will probably love it.A note to Harry Potter fans: (spoiler alert)In this book too you will meet a child, an orphan wearing rags living under the stairs who is pleasantly surprised by a large man bearing gifts much to the chagrin of her foster parents; and you will fall in love with this child- for whom her mother makes a heart wrenching sacrifice.

Les Misérables - Canterbury Classics Leatherbound Edition
The Canterbury Classics edition of Les Misérables has brilliant cover design, sturdy leathercover build, gilded edges, a few illustrations within and a ribbon book mark. The pages are not white but crème (faintly yellow) - which is a welcome departure from the usual white/off-white/ivory pages in most books. My only complaint would be regarding the pages being a bit thin but given the size of this hefty tome, i think it's reasonable.

Fabulous Edition of Les Miserables
This edition of Les Miserables looks and feels fabulous. The binding is done using a leather like material which is feels very good in the hand. The binding is sewn to the spine ensuring the longevity of the book. The pages are edged in golden colour. The end papers have the famous painting "liberty leading the people". The pages have a slight yellow hue which makes reading easy. The font size is comfortably large. This book is not just for show but is an ideal as a reading copy.

Miniscule Font Size
If you are a collector you might like it but I would recommend buying the bonded leather hardcover edition of this title by the same publisher if you plan on reading it or you could use a magnifying lens.

Excellent edition of one of the best novels ever written
Excellent edition of one of the best novels ever written ! The leather cover is beautiful an the quality of pages inside is thick and creamy white. It is a pleasure to read from such a book ! And this is a novel that can be read many times over and over again. Do not be daunted by the size it is a very moving story told by an extremely sensitive author who can transport you to a different time and place. The service was excellent. Atlantic Distributors shipped the item well ahead of the committed time. It was nicely packed and delivered on time. Keep up the good work teams Atlantic and Amazon !!

Excellent
This is for the World Cloud Classics flexibound edition. FYI the translator is Isabel F Hapgood. Personally, I am loving the translation. The quality of binding, paper and cover is really good. It has great binding and is also lightweight and easy to hold.As for the book itself, I will not say much....just loving it. It's definitely on my all time favourites list now.

Les Miserables: as relevant today as when written
Les Miserables is a phenomenal triumph of the written word and one of the greatest books I’ve read. The story is engaging, the characters so completely developed that you feel you know them personally, and the social messages very relevant today. There is also, unfortunately, a substantial amount of Les Mis that is social commentary of the time and does not advance the plot. Most of it is interesting from a historical perspective, but some not. If you can get over these literary wanderings, the book is fantastic.

Precioso
