Good Die for Rethreading...I provde needed wrench size!
Good die for cleaning up and chasing damaged or dirty/rusty/painted pipe threads. Note that this in NOT for threading an unthreaded pipe...I have a heavy duty die set to do that...but my heavy-duty die set is too big to work in a confined space or on a short pipe nipple. That's where this compact rethreading die is great.For those wanting to know what wrench fits this die (Amazon doesn't say)...this 1" pipe die requires a big wrench (2.165" across flats), or you can use a 2 3/16" socket wrench or equivalent box or open-end wrench. I just used a pair of channel locks...not pretty, but it worked in my confined space. A socket wrench would have been best, but the 2 3/16" socket would be another $20 or so and require a 3/4" socket drive.I used the die to clean up the thread on a 1" pipe used as a washing machine drain. Worked like a champ!Highly recommended!

die looks well made but...
the die is .08 over the 1" hex size so it will not fit into any handle designed to hold a 1" die.will make it difficult to start the threading parallel to the end of the pipe

This was convenient. The price is alright. It works well and allowed me to repair a marine grill.There is a disadvantage to using these hex dies - it's hard to get it onto the pipe perfectly straight. The dies that are adjustable might make this easier. Perhaps there's a trick to this that I don't know?

good dye for pipe thread repairs.
It does what its suppose to do without issue. Threads are clean and ready to use. I had no issues with not finding an handle with this dye. I had one already that fit, but if you need one its made by Mason.
