DYSFUNCTUAL FAMILIES AND MURDER
Two similar murders, one an elderly woman, the other a young mother with a husband and two children. Both had a plastic scorpion left on them, what other connection, if any. Alicia Javon’s marriage was in trouble, hospital records, bruises show, regardless of what the husband was saying.. He had lost his job, and acting like a dutiful husband. Two girls, one does his bidding, the other with bruises has moved out. Another murder a homeless man. They now look at the characteristics of a Scorpion , will that help. The leads, the connections, the chef wants answers, but there is none. A tension filled plot, which now leaves two girls without a mother. We wonder what is thebmotive, was in only one, and the others just to throw them off. A good series, each has been worth reading,

Trust and faith
I have enjoyed reading this book. So different from my usual read but so touching. Life sometimes works in mysterious ways to show us how to appreciate the small things. Taking this journey with Graves and Sanchez, was mysterious, climatic, and sweet. So many emotions pass by you as you read this book. You actual find yourself bonding with the characters, and thinking how realistic some moments in the story are. I also enjoyed how Houston was pictured in this book. I loved reading about a different part of the city I live in. Looking forward to seeing more of the characters in this book, and see what other crimes the FBI will solve.

Suspenseful and fast paced
Special Agent Bethany Sanchez left the civil rights department of the FBI to work in the violent crimes unit. She is assigned to work with Special Agent Thatcher Graves. The two agents clash at first as their ways of investigating crimes differ. Bethany is very analytical and Thatcher goes by his gut feeling. They are investigating murders that appear to Thatcher as being those of a serial murderer but Bethany is not so sure. Bethany's brother, Lucas, has recently been released from prison where he was sent based on testimony by Thatcher and a second time by Bethany's testimony. Because of this, Bethany has been ostracized by her family who tend to take up for Lucas and excuse his actions. Bethany begins receiving threatening texts from a burner phone. Someone tried to hit her with a car. Bethany thinks that Lucas could be behind it all because he has a history of crimes against others that involve no guilt on his part. He has let her know that he resents her for sending him to prison and especially because she is now working with Thatcher, who also sent him to prison. But as events pile up and even include Thatcher, she and Thatcher begin to question who is behind the threats. It begins to appear that maybe the person committing the murders could be behind the threats to Bethany and Thatcher.DEADLOCK is fast paced with twists and turns. Bethany and Thatcher have to learn to work together to combine their skills to solve the murders and have to watch their backs. Someone seems to know their every move and keep trying to sabotage their investigation as well as put their lives in danger. Bethany's faith helps her deal with the rejection of her family while Thatcher is a new Christian. The story has a surprise ending. Grab it for an on the edge of your seat read!

Great fast paced murder mystery with a dash of romance!
Two murders have rocked the city of Houston. Are they the work of a serial killer, or is a copycat trying to get away with murder? That is the question facing Special Agent Bethany Sanchez, who is eager for her new assignment in violent crimes but anxious about meeting her new partner. Special Agent Thatcher Graves once arrested her brother, and he has a reputation for being a maverick. Plus, their investigative styles couldn’t be more opposite: he operates on instinct, while she goes by the book. When hot leads soon fizzle out, their differences threaten to leave them deadlocked. But an attempt on their lives turns up the heat and brings them closer together, and a third victim might yield the clue that will help them zero in on a killer. This could be the case of their careers . . . if they can survive long enough to solve itI have loved, LOVED, loved this series. This is the third book in Mills' FBI:Houston series. Just like the previous 2 books, my interest was held with the action and intrigue. However, the book reads more like a romance novel then the previous two. This is mainly noticed in the descriptions of gazing looks, BUT, I highly recommend this book to those who love fast paced murder mystery novels with a dash of romance thrown in.All views and opinions expressed are my own. This was a complimentary book provided for reviewing purposes by Tyndale House.

Bethany and Thatcher have their differences but learn to work ...
Bethany and Thatcher have their differences but learn to work together without grouping each other. Bethany's family gives new meaning to dysfunctional. And, let us not forget the murders. The author has the reader asking, who, why, and how. It is a decent murder mystery. It held my attention; it just didn't grab my attention.

An amazing 3rd book to the series
As with all the other books in the series, this was a great addition, The themes of love and forgiveness run strong throughout the story and this can be read by anyone who loves this type of storyline, The spiritual aspects remind us of the importance of our relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ and I am quite confident that non-believers could not possibly be "offended" but would be challenged. The questioning of how God works at times - the why God? will always be there but it's what helps to make the story realistic. Well done DiAnn.
