no handle really helps in teh right situation; solid steel and sharpens well; killer tool

I think I prefer a double bevel
As a carpenter, and not a professional wood worker, I’m frequently scribing and marking in less than ideal positions. I bought this to replace a hock marking knife that went missing that had a double sided grind for left and right handed marking. Using this right-side only narex really makes me miss my hock. It’s still a well made knife. Sharp and feels good in the hand. I’m sure it’s perfect for some applications, but it’s not for a trim carpenter.

It's a small peice of steel. Seems to take an edge just fine. Safe investment.
It's a chunk of steel. If you know how to work it, it will serve your purpose. I like the shorter angle in comparison to many Japanese style marking knives as my tools get knocked around sometimes. This piece required some work at 1000 grit to eliminate machining marks on bevel. Haven't edged it above 1000 grit yet, but after a strop it does shave. I mostly did this review to show of this little oak holder I made for it that features a magnet to keep it firmly in place between use.

Very nice tool at a reasonable price
This review applies to the Left Hand marking knife as well-- I bought both. It is well machined and fits the hand nicely. I rounded off the sharp edges a bit to make it more comfortable to use. It took about 10 minutes on a diamond stone. The back is ground flat and the the edge is reasonably sharp out of the box. I touched it up with a micro-bevel--again taking only a couple of minutes. I can't say how well it will hold and edge as I haven't used it much yet. Nevertheless, Narex has a good reputation, so I'm confident it will be well suited to its intended use.

Very good for what I need it to do: layout lines for chiseling and sawing wood.
Pro: This knife came out of the box very sharp and ready to use. The tip is extremely fine and exact. Con: the edges around the knife are kind of sharp and can get a little uncomfortable if you have a lot of marking to do. Pro: I had reason to interact with the company and they were extremely helpful and responsive, not something you always see these days. Pro: it can be sharpened similarly to sharpening a chisel: like a knucklehead, I was taking this tool and several others back from my work bench to where they are stored on the wall of my workshop, when my brand new marking tool slipped from my hand and landed on the concrete floor point-first, taking a tiny chip off the tip; I was able to use my sharpening stones and 3000 grit sandpaper to get a very sharp tip back on the knife.

They sent a left handed one. If I was lefty this would be great. But i'm not.
Great quality and feel but is NOT as ordered. Others have said the same.

Fun to Hold
There's something simply enjoyable about holding a nice piece of steel. It sharpens well, holds an edge, and is heavy in the hand. I sharpen it on diamond stones and have no problems there. Holding the knife for long periods of time is a bit uncomfortable and holy cow this thing is easy to lose. Other than that, awesome!
