New Jack: Memoir of a Pro Wrestling Extremist

Extremely entertaining and enjoyable
I really enjoyed this piece of work by New Jack. I was never a big fan of his style in the ring, but I always enjoyed his character out of it. His shoot interviews are always must see. With that being said,I think any fan of professional wrestling and any fan of wrestling autobiographies will enjoy this book. It’s not on par with the classics like Jericho’s,Foley,Hart,or Ole Anderson’s but I’d rank it up there with Flair’s and Shawn Michaels books. Without any sports currently due to what’s going on in the world today with covid-19,this will entertain you and take you away from everything for a little while. I absolutely recommend New Jack’s book

Best Heel Ever !
I watched a lot of wrestling in the 20th century. Mostly WWF and CWF. I grew up watching heels like Killer Karl Kox, Ray Stevens, Ernie Ladd, The Assassins and many more. I saw the next generation of heels such as Shawn Michaels, HHH, and Stone Cold.No one, and I mean no one, drew heat like New Jack did in Smokey Mountain wrestling. It transcended wrestling. It got the NAACP and the racists on the same side. A great heel like a Blassie or Abdullah the Butcher makes you fear for the babyface. New Jack made you fear for you. It's scary watching a video of him.But the book presents another side of New Jack. After a horrendous childhood and a morally shaky start, New Jack (Jerome Young) grew as a man. I find him to be likable. Not always perfect though. I won't go into the number of controversial incidents, but what I love about the book is that the incidents are so debatable. Did New Jack go too far? Did the other participant deserve it? What was a shoot and what was a bit of a work? The book keeps you thinking and it's very entertaining. That's why 5 Stars.

scary
There is no question New Jack provides insider details into ECW. A lot of the information is just plain scary and it suggests they went too "extreme" as a wrestling organization. It is actually well written and is a pretty fast read. New Jack leaves nothing to the imagination and is very self critical when required. I would have rated it a 5 star book except I found the over abundant stories of drug use depressing. Clearly as a fan I had no clue it was so widespread.

Thank you, New Jack!
An honest look into the life of one of ECW’s biggest stars. The man accomplished more without going to WWE or ECW than most of their superstars would in their lifetime. And I appreciate his detail why certain events happened. Never mind the talk of the people on that episode of “Darkside of the Ring.” This book is from the man who lived it. Enjoy.

Good story
Good story. Somewhat overlaps with the vice documentary, with enough added material to keep you captivated. I binged read it in 3 days because I wanted to know more behind the scenes at ECW.

it’s a career
I watched New Jack on ECW. Not impressed. I read this because I wanted to see just what he would write about. Yes I respect him as a wrestler and a human being, but reading his life story and wrestling stories just alright. Expected a bit more but it’s okay read.

Great Book!!!!
I used to be in the wrestling business. I have worked with new jack and heard stories straight from his mouth. I watched many shoot interviews on the computer. I watched his documentary on TV. This book still was amazing and I could not put it down until the last page.

Very good read
New Jack was never a favourite of mine in his ECW days, his style was way too hardcore for my liking but I did admire his work on the microphone and he had the presence of the guy you wouldn't mess with.In this book he gives us a look at his life from his rough childhood up until 2020 when the book came out. He doesn't seem to have held a lot back with his writing, he discusses his childhood, his criminal activities that led him to jail, his drug dealing and his time as a wrestler. He doesn't deal that much dirt about the other wrestlers with the exception of some who he felt did him wrong.I enjoyed the book, had the feeling that the author told it like it was and gave us an honest account of himself.

Essential for wrestling fans, a little lacking in content
This is New Jack's only book. Although it skips a lot of details, it is absolutely essential to know his side of the story with info that can only be found here (e.g. parents, drama, etc.) This book is a must buy.
