LOVED this book!
Iāve been meaning to read a book from Meghan March for a while now. Iāve had the first from her Mount Trilogy books on my kindle for a couple of years. I finally made time during the summer and read the book in less than two days when I was on vacation traveling the state of Florida doing college tours with my oldest daughter. I needed a distraction, and the Ruthless King was the perfect distraction, especially when it hit me that my oldest daughter graduates next Spring and will leave me to go off to college. This mama is not ready! Iām thankful to authors like Meghan March, who can send me into a fictional world to escape reality for a while.Storyline/My Thoughts: How many stars did I give Ruthless King after reading it? āļø āļø āļø āļø āļøYes, I gave it five stars because it deserves those stars. I had difficulty putting down the book because of the characters, storyline, and crazy cliffhanger. I wish I could give it more, but Amazon/Goodreads wonāt let me.I loved Ruthless King from the first page to the last page, even if the MMC, Lachlan Mount, drove me batty with his alpha-like, powerful, controlling jerk ways. This man comes into the life of the FMC, Keira Kilgore, after her jerk of a dead husband rakes up debt that he was supposed to pay back to Lachlan Mount. Now, itās on his widower to pay back the debt. She canāt; instead, Lachlan offers to take her for the debt. She will not accept being Lachlanās property until she consults with her closest friend. Unfortunately, even her friend says she canāt disappear, and she will have to either come up with the debt owed or be Lachlanās. Lachlan is a handsome, powerful man who could have any woman he wants and wants Keira. Lachlan is not a man you can say no to, and Keira will realize it immediately. However, Keira will not back down, and sheāll fight back against Lachlan, making him want her more.I loved the banter between these two characters, even if Lachlan was an alpha-hole. The steam/spice between the characters is HOT when Keira gives in to Lachlan. Lachlan will prove that he can do things for her in the bedroom that her former husband never did for her. Heās going to give her everything she ever craved and more. Her former husband was a jerk in his own way. Not only because he used her familyās distillery business as collateral for his debt, but he treated her crap in the bedroom and even ended up cheating on her.I loved Keiraās character when she fought back against Lachlan. I liked her also because even with her having trouble with her familyās business, she didnāt want to give up on it. She also didnāt want her family to know she was struggling. She was trying everything to get it up and running successfully. Sheās a fighter, and I loved that in my FMCs in stories. Unfortunately, as I stated in the review, she couldnāt say no without consequences. Lachlan gave her plenty of punishments in the book for disobeying him.Hereās why I liked Lachlan. Donāt judge me for it, but I sometimes want an alpha-hole in my stories, especially in Dark Romances. Yes, he did some questionable things when it came to Keira. He owns her for the debt owed to him by her former husband. Heās showing her how she should have been cared for in the bedroom. He even does something in this book that makes her realize that he will not let anyone harm her. She is supposed to be his, and he will protect her at all costs. That cliffhanger at the end of this book made me almost throw my kindle, but I resisted, and now Iām anxiously waiting to make some time for the second book in the trilogy. I need to find out what happens next with Keira and Lachlan.Iām so glad I finally made time to read a book by Meghan March. If she writes MMCs that are morally grey characters always, like Lachlan. I may be in trouble, though. I canāt have any more book boyfriends added to my list. My husband gets jealous. Although, when it comes to Lachlan, heās already been added. My husband will have to deal with it. šStandalone or Part of Series: Itās part of the Mount Trilogy, and I recommend reading in order.Cliffhanger: YesWould I recommend this book? Yes. If you enjoy Dark Erotic/Contemporary Romance books with Enemies to Lovers vibes and an MMC who will hurt anyone who flirts or tries to touch the FMC, I recommend this book.

A darker side of Meghan March
First off let me say that I love love love Meghan March and her books!! She's one of those authors that makes you think you know the answer or what is going to happen and then WHAM throws a curve ball at you that keeps you on your toes and guessing until the very end. And of course I'm a sucker for those type of authors and I become loyal fans because they are just pure awesomeness!!! This was definitely a different type of writing style for Meghan, but she rocked it and I'm waiting impatiently for the next book because I HAVE TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS!!!!!With this book we start out learning about Keira and that she owns a distillery in New Orleans that's been in her family for a few generations. We also learn that the company isn't doing the best right now and that's being generous. One night she walks into her office and someone else is there......the king of the underworld.....and he's come to collect a debt owed to him. With a little back story we learn that Keira was married and she fell hard for this guy who ended up being a horrible guy royally screwed her over. Not only was he cheating on her the entire time and a con artist and a druggie, but he borrowed an obscene amount of money from Lachlan Mount and now Mount has come to collect. Ohh and I should mention that Keira is a widow. Mount is not known for being kind in any sense of the word and yet with Keria he gives her an option or an out. Instead of paying back the money (that she can't possibly obtain) he'll just take her....or more precisely her body. After trying to find a way out she gives in and the real fun begins.I think the best part of this book (or at least the part that I find the funniest) is whenever Keria is being picked up by Mount's driver. First dude does not talk at all he grunts and just makes a noise. Also not only does she have to be blindfolded everywhere they go but she's not allowed to walk.....he carries her. For me it was one of the most hilarious things I've read recently especially putting a mental image to this. My other favorite scene from this book was when she was deposited by the driver into a room and when she took her blindfold off there was no door for her to leave, but she spots a camera and feels the need to take off what she's wearing to stand there stark naked and flip off Mount to this camera as well as show the little surprise she has on her butt, just for him. Being an Irish girl myself I completely am in love with Keria and her spunk and feistiness. We learn more about the deal struck between Keria and Mount as well as a bit more about Mount.....not a lot just a little. But it's enough to suck you into his world to want to know more. Even reading the blurb we know that Mount has had is eye on Keria for a bit and I thought I knew what he did to really insert himself into her life, however I could not have truly known the depths and how Keria came onto Mounts radar. *MIND BLOWN*I highly highly recommend this book not only because Meghan March is an amazing writer and just sucks you into whatever world she creates, but the characters and story line will take hold from page one and keep you wanting more. I'm over here anxiously awaiting book 2 and 3. So make sure you get your copy today before the next one comes out because this is a series you aren't going to want to miss.

It didn't feel finished.
The idea is good but there are a lot of loose ends. It didn't feel finished though the end is a cliffhanger. I'd have like it to have solid end.

Arrogance Arrogance Arrogance
Lachlan Mount is King of the underworld. He is an extremely powerful man who chooses to live outside the rules of society. In fact he makes up his own rules. He is such a ghostly character that when Keira Googled his name, nothIng came up. But he controls his kingdom in New Orleans with a rod of iron. He fears no one. I feel uncomfortable learning about him and what he can do. I want to hate him. Because the cruelty, fear and angst that is contained in this book generates from him like wild fire. He has the power to kill anyone who is perceived as a threat. What to me feels like sexual, physical and mental abuse is all showered and centred on to one person; Keira Kilgore. In debt to the bank, whiskey distillery owner Keira is determined to keep ownership of her family's Irish high quality distillery. Then she also finds out that she owes a debt of half a million dollars to Lachlan for a loan her cheating dead husband took out on the distillery. This puts Keira on Lachlan's radar. And in payment he wants 'her'.With no alternative, even her best friend can only raise one hundred thousand dollars, she reluctantly agrees to his demands and finds herself kept a prisoner, depraved of her basic rights and freedom. She has to keep her liaison with Lachlan secret, stay/sleep in a flat he owns, has to be escorted to and from work and also submit to his erotic wishes and sexual desires. Otherwise, he threatened to seek out her friends, family and employees and most likely kill them.I read every word of this story, even though I just wanted to throw it down at times and walk from the evil in it. Then right at the end there is a shocking cliff- hanger which leaves me wanting to read book two of this Mount trilogy.
