Peace of mind for a thirsty dog
My big Lab mix dog is notorious for not drinking all day, then gulping down a bunch of water in the middle of the night. Wake up at 3AM in my house and you'll hear SCHLORP SCHLORP SCHLORP as he ingests a kiddie pool of water in one shot. No, there's nothing physically wrong with him-- he's just weird.A regular water dish is a lost cause. He'll drink it dry by morning. Because of this I wanted something with enough volume so that I wouldn't have to refill it more than once a day.So far, this dish is doing the job. It holds enough water that I can go about 36-48 hours without refilling, and that's with 2 dogs drinking from it. It's relatively deep which keeps splashes and spills at a minimum.I found that the best way to fill it up is to fill the bottle with fresh water, put the cap on, and then screw the water dish down on top of it. The entire assembly will be upside down. Walk it over to where I want it and then flip it upside down and put it on the ground in one motion. This keeps the bowl empty until it's in position, so you don't have to juggle a full, top-heavy bowl of water into place.I will say, cleaning it is a bit of a pain. The two halves of the bowl snap together and there are a few spots that are hard to reach with a sponge. The water in my neighborhood is relatively hard which leads to mineral deposits in a few crevices that are particularly hard to clean out.Since they're harmless I usually ignore them, but every once in a while I get it in my head to scrape them out. I usually end up popping the two halves of the water dish apart. They use snap fit tabs and, while it isn't impossible to get them apart, they never snap back together as securely. This doesn't affect anything-- the bowl won't fall apart-- but it's mildly annoying that I can't take this thing apart to clean it up more easily. One more thing-- I never bother with the charcoal filter. So far my dogs haven't complained. Considering how many disgusting things they find to gnaw on in my back yard, I'm sure the taste of tap water won't even be a consideration for them. The dispenser is easily worth the $18 or so that I paid for it. This is the second one I've had and, aside from not being easy to disassemble for cleaning, it does everything that it needs to do.

VERY PLEASED WITH THIS VERY WELL-MADE, STURDY PET WATER BOWL
The last water bowl with attached gravity jug we got from a big box store was made with flimsy plastic on both the jug and the bowl - it was difficult to pick up and handle with an almost useless snap-lock system which resulted in the jug popping off. The PETMATE not only has none of of these problems but has some great features in addition. This PETMATE gravity jug and bowl is made from very sturdy plastic and has a great twist-lock mechanism. We use it on the deck for our wildlife friends and it holds enough water for about 2 weeks. It includes a filter, which does double duty keeping critter debris from moving up into the jug. Our raccoons like washing their hands BEFORE eating and then bits of food drop off of them with their parting drink. We got the 2.5 gallon version and are very pleased. And best of all, it is quality product made in the USA.Here is a trick to get more mileage out of the jug. The bowl holds a lot of water and after filling the jug, you twist the bowl onto the cap and then turn it over. A lot of water then drains from the jug to fill the bowl. We use a quart container to immediately fill the bowl after turning it over to reduce the initial draining of the jug.

Near perfect
This is a 4 gallon capacity, works for my two med-large dogs, lasts a week between fillings. I fill the base first to get that extra day out of it. It does build up grime, so I wash it when I need to fill. I just wish the top came off the bottom so I could get under the lip easier. The bowl is plenty big enough for both of them, it's about 4" deep but the water fills about 1" shy, helps with the sloshing. The jug is quite heavy when full, be prepared. The screw cap also needs to be washed when refilling. Overall works for us, the refilling twice a day was a pain, so this was an awesome purchase

Great practical Idea
Great practical product. My dog drinks a lot of water and this item saves on repeat refills of a normal water bowl. Very basic concept, no mechanical moving components to fail so should therefore last for years. I previously had, and still have, a similar type, the cafe waterer, also made by Petmate but the cap started to split. Although the cafe waterer has worked well, this replendish version is far more robust with a good sturdy cap. I don't understand the need for a filter and don't use it but it doesn't affect the function in any way.The item was described as white but is actually grey (as pictured in listing), it also had white indicated on packaging. Not an issue for me but just bare that in mind if you are expecting a white bowl.

Looks great
I love this, love the colour, it looks far more 'decorative' than others. Works well, ideal size for a cat, I can't imagine the size I've bought would be that great for a large dog. A small dog maybe. I've added some photos as I struggled to work out size from the photos so hope I can help someone else.

Amazing large dog water dispenser
This is one large water dispenser. It arrived in a huge box (Amazon Style), and first impressions was it size. The water container is very large - 9lt I think and does the job perfectly.Things to note: the water container has a screw lid, easy to fit and get off with no moving parts. When off the opening to the water container is so large you can fit your hand in making cleaning a doddle. Fill with water place it on the base unit upside down and tip the whole unit the right way up and away you go.The water reservoir has a lip around its edge stopping the water spilling out with any accidental knocks. Overall brilliant product. For information this is the 3rd water dispenser we have had for the dogs, the previous two were of another make with a very weak screw thread that has broken, not with this unit! Two dogs well pleased and hydrated.

Sturdy and generous
This is a good reservoir for the dogs. Initially they were not sure about the taste of the filtered water but now they drink happily. Hopefully the microban will stop it going green so quickly. Plentiful supply in a good deep bowl. One ‘con’ - our garden toad thinks it is great and he can hide completely under the bottle neck. Let’s hope he gets out to pee!

So cool !
My dog has yet to learn to drink from it, as she gets scared of the bubbles when it refills hahaha, but otherwise very handy for when you are out and she needs to have water around ! Also my little bordercollie has a habit to knock the water bowl down when she wants water and its empty, but they are metal and make an awful noise when she knocks them, so having this alternative means she always has water and doesn't have to knock her bowl down any more!
