A look into safe , beautiful , touristy and religiously harmonious kashmir
amazing movie.Shows you what Kashmir was like before the escalations of violence over there. It not only shows how kashmir was tourist destination but also people in Kashmir having names like Dinu and Mohan. Of course this was before pogroms and subsequent expulsion of Kashmiri pandits in late 1990s . So it shows that amazing Kashmir which was not only beautiful but also religiously harmonious I hope Kashmir can become like that one day. Also spoiler alert!!! Shamni Kapoor is adopted son of a women and he fells in love with estranged biological daughter of the same women. So it has incesty vibes to it. but i m probably reading too much to it

Not From Original Publisher
Bad DVD quality. Not from original publisher (EROS) as indicated on associated image. Other sellers may have the original of this DVD but Planet Bollywood does not. Have bought other DVD from this sellers and those were fine. My dissatisfaction is with this specific DVDs from this specific seller.

Drama
This movie is directed by Shakti Samanta additional by Mohan Barodia. The music direction is fine and the scenery in the mountains. Great acting by Sharmila Tagore and musical numbers, story is Rajiv Lal who plans to escape an arranged marriage by running away from home to Kashmir. He falls in love with Champa a florist whose father presents a challenge. Very entertaining, good to watch. I'd watch it again.

Must see
Sweet young adult romance. Actors perfect for the roles. Music is lilting, original and uplifting. No negativity please. I saw it on screen when released and many times since. Always a joy to watch.

God's Own Country
The real star of this film is the Kashmir countryside - some of the scenes are absolutely breathtaking. It's difficult to see how the film crew, with their bulky sixties film cameras, even managed to get into some of these places. You either love Shammi Kapoor or hate him. It's difficult to see in retrospect why he was India's first genuine rock'n'roll star - but then it's difficult to see why Tommy Steele was either. He does vaguely look like Elvis in a mannered third-rate Uzbek Elvis impressionist kind of way - and he does have some Bizarro Elvis type mannerisms. In this film, his costume designer should have been shot - just look at those incredibly plain ill-fitting jackets and trousers he wears, like a poorly-paid golf pro at a seaside club. And his acting......well, I suppose there he is much like Elvis.Sharmila Tagore was beautiful and sweet and ideally suited to this role - she forms the centre of the plot really. It's not a great story - it's a typical Bollywood romantic tragedy from the early 60s - but it's barely a one-hankie job. Overall, it is worth watching for the nostalgia, for a glimpse into another time and place, for some of the songs - especially the one at the peasant feast with a bhangra beat - and for Sharmila in an early role.
