We are a welding and fabrication company with 90% of our work being field work. We have made and bought several grasshoppers for grounding to the bevel while welding. Some were magnetic and others weren’t. Problem we had was when the pipe was wiggled to correct high/low or set the gap the ground would fall off just about the time you were ready to tack it.They were all to top heavy, large ground clamp on the top, some swiveled upwards so you could get around cage clamps and then they would fall off. We resorted to a bungy cord which wasn’t bad until you really started putting some pipe on the ground. It took about 30 seconds to wrap the bungy, which isn’t long. However, when your doing 30 joints in a day it adds up.The Stronghand ground (grasshopper) is light weight, not top heavy. We made a whip with a lug to connect to the grasshopper and an LC40 on the other to connect to our ground lead. Line up the connection point, drop it on and it’s stuck. Roll it to around 10-11 o’clock and start your weld. Swap sides, roll it towards 1-2 o’clock. Quick and easy, quick being the keyword. When your done, pop it off the pipe and stick it to the side of your rig and roll on to the next one.We bought two different versions and they cost around $60. Magnets hold very well. We’ve been using it on 4” pipe and sticks great! Powercrete (bore pipe) it’s ok but that stuff causes problems with a lot of magnetic tools. Tips on the one we bought are replaceable also.Very happy with these grasshoppers from Stronghand!!

These are awesome. I've bought several of them. Forgot that magnets can lose their magnetism if enough heat is applied. These are better at preventing that from happening if your are careful.
