The Wendy Project

A Fresh Take on a Familiar Tale
Such a poignant exploration of a familiar story from a totally different point of view, in a new and exciting way. The illustrations are gorgeous and really enhance this story of grief and hope. Melissa Jane Osborne has a relatable way of writing that easily draws you into this world, with Wendy at the center. It’s fun to see characters and imagery we already know in a reimagined way. Plus, it made me cry. It’s authentic, moving, and beautiful to explore.

Masterfully uses imagery from one of the most famous childhood ...
Masterfully uses imagery from one of the most famous childhood fantasies to explore grief and loss, how trauma can catapult children into growing up too early, and the importance of family. In addition to being personally enjoyable interesting, I can also see this having benefits in classrooms, or therapy and support groups.

Intriguing blend of fantasy and reality
I picked this up at the library on a whim. I haven’t been reading many graphic novels lately and this looked interesting. It was a well done blend of contemporary, fantasy, and magical realism. I enjoyed it and especially loved the art style.Wendy is in a horrible car crash while driving and the crash kills one of her brothers...or does it? Wendy and her other brother are convinced that the youngest brother isn’t dead but was taken by a mysterious flying boy. Now Wendy and her brother must figure out if their brother Michael is alive in a different world or dead. This book is an interesting blend of fantasy and reality. Wendy is obviously undergoing a mental breakdown of sorts and her own confusion makes it hard to tell what’s fantasy and what’s reality. In her moments of fantasy she is convinced that Michael has become a lost boy (there are many Peter Pan references throughout). While the story is fairly melancholy, there are glimpses of hope throughout as well.Overall this is a unique and creative story that I enjoyed. I really loved the illustration style and how it was put together. I would recommend to those who enjoy fairy tale retellings and stories where fantasy and reality are blurred.

A must read for all!
Beautiful book from start to finish capturing the emotional turmoil of a teen dealing with loss and adolescence. In addition, it pays an homage to Peter Pan transporting the reader to a magical world that is reminiscent of our childhood dreams. A must read for all!

Engaging and interesting
My son read this book and he absolutely loved it. It was one of the few books he read where he actually enjoyed discussing it afterward.

Great read
Brilliant interpretation of this story with a necessary contemporary twist. The artwork stands on its own but the narrative can't be beat.
