Ultimate Machine Girl

Information/Review: Ultimate Machine Girl
Just to get it out of the way early on: Tokyo Shock is milking fans of these movies. They're releasing one very basic version of a movie (movie-only, little to no features), re-releasing it a couple months later with some extras, and then often re-releasing it again a 3rd time with even more extras. It happened with Tokyo Gore Police (with the re-release, "Tokyo Gore Police 1.5") and now it's happening with Machine Girl (Machine Girl / Machine Girl Remix / Ultimate Machine Girl). On to the product itself.. Ultimate Machine Girl is a 3-disc set including Machine Girl (disc 1), a spinoff short(Machine Girlite - a 22 minute short film -- disc 2) and now a 3rd disc of extras.Disc 1 is the same as found in: The Machine Girl Disc 1 and 2 are the same as found in: The Machine Girl Remix EditionThe only way to get the extras disc are in the Ultimate Machine Girl tin. The other 2 discs are the exact same as from the other sets (and the only way to get Disc 2 (Machine Girlite) is in this set or the Machine Girl Remix Edition linked above). One nice thing is that despite being called a "Collectors Tin" (I was expecting an actual aluminum/tin case) it's actually a (real) Steelbook case and looks very nice!Since there is no information on this set, the extras on the 3rd disc are:Making of Machine Girl - 21:15Premiere - 4:11Machine Girl in Yubari - 6:23Special Effects Featurette - 12:19Action vs Storyboards featurette - 10:26Interview w/ cast and crew - 19:15Talk show - 12:36TV Spot - 1:42The extras are in a 4:3 aspect ratio and subtitled. So it's got about an hour and a half worth of stuff on it.. I found it to be entertaining throughout, but whether it's worth the extra 20 bucks over the standard DVD.. or 10 bucks over the remix edition (DVD+Short Film), would be up to you. If you're one of the "Steelbook collectors" you will want to add this one to your collection.I think this is the most complete release the movie will ever get, and it's a very nice package. It would just have been nice if they released it this way the first time around rather than double (and triple) dipping it.The movie is a low-budget, over the top gore-fest which I loved! Check out the trailer to see if it's something you might be interested in, and check out the links above to read more reviews on the film itself. Why 4 stars? It's expensive. It's a bit lame to just re-package the same discs as before.. and it would have been nice to have this release in the first place (instead of a constantly-expanding release with each version). I bought all 3 releases, so they got me for my money a few times. Shortly after this release, a Blu-Ray version was "re-announced" - I've received the Blu-Ray and there is little improvement over the DVD versions (audio/video). The Blu-Ray only includes the Movie and Machine Girl Lite feature (plus the original trailer and a 10 minute behind the scenes featurette) - basically the same content as the Machine Girl Remix DVD (although at a lower cost than the DVD). The Ultimate Edition DVD is still the most complete version of the movie available, including an extra disc of bonus features, a Steelbook case and not-too-far-off audio/video quality compared to the Blu-Ray.This is the version to get if you're a die-hard fan of the movie. If you just thought it was a fun movie, either of the other editions will do just fine for you (go for Blu-Ray if you can as it's the cheapest of them all and includes the same content as Machine Girl Remix). This set is really one for the real fans.. the problem is that the fans almost all already own the earlier edition (or two).

One of My Favorites
This is the edition to buy (of all the editions released so far). This movie is almost too much fun. I don't want to spoil anything for anybody who hasn't seen it yet, so I'll write very little here. Obviously, she gets a machine gun in place of her arm, and it's intentionally absurd. There's humor in excessive gore.

Worthy entry for Tokyo shock movie fans
If you like the Tokyo Shock style movies, this will be up your alley. There are some scenes where the actor mistakenly shows that she really has not lost an arm, but that's all part of the fun. Someone in Japan obviously loved the Army of Darkness movie with the chainsaw connecting to the amputated area, and for the most part they do a good job with it.

Awesome!
What can I say about this film that hasn’t already been said? It’s extremely entertaining and the 3-disc steelbook packaging and bonus features are fantastic.
