Every single pellet was chock full of bones of all kinds. It was really fun and satisfying. We did this together with kids aged 4 to 17. Have a spray bottle of water and spritz them as you work, so it is easier to take them apart. I had each kid use metal tweezers and toothpicks. When we were all done, we soaked the bones in hydrogen peroxide to clean them up.

These owl pellets are excellent and my kids got an absolute thrill from dissecting them. We have only done 4 of them so far and we got some pleasant surprises. One pellet had an adult skull and four very small baby skulls leading us to suspect the owl either ate a pregnant female (hence the very small skulls) or found a nest and after eating the mother, had very easy dessert with the helpless little ones. Either way, my kids thought it was cool. We also dissected one that only had one skeleton in it but it was a much larger skull than the others and we were able to find the entire skeleton, pairing up all the bones etc to make a complete animal (likely a vole). The other two we dissected each had two skulls and a variety of bones but since my little ones aren’t as thorough at cleaning the fur from the bones, they only kept the larger bones. Anyway, we are looking forward to the other pellets but so far, the first four were great and did not disappoint. As for the tools, the tweezers and toothpicks are totally adequate for the job. The accompanying bone charts are helpful for identifying the various bone parts and animals and the packaging was fine. Delivery was quick and everything was exactly as described. Very happy.

I bought these for my six and eight year old children to explore while we were on lockdown. The kid has everything that you need. The pellets had all sorts of little tiny bones and skulls. The kit comes with the tweezers so it’s nice to be able to pick everything apart. We also like that it came with the bone identification sheet so we knew what we were looking at.

I ordered these for my science class. Once they got past the “Owl Poop…eeewww!”, response and began to search for the bones, they had so much fun.This is a great project for anyone to try out, whether it’s the family, an individual, or a classroom.Enjoy!

Had a church young men’s group decide they wanted to dissect owl pellets and I was very pessimistic about it for obvious reasons but they had a lot of fun finding the different bones and trying to figure out what animal it was. The pamphlet that comes with it was very useful for figuring out what animal you were looking at.

Bought this for a Christmas gift for a 6 year old. But everyone got involved in picking apart these fascinating pellets. Would highly recommend!

From my 6 year old son: Sometimes the owl pellets come with skeletons from 2 animals in them and other pellets I've opened have only come with one skeleton.
