great fit
Bought a size 9 of the blue/grey style for my husband's size 9 foot and he found them very comfortable. No problems with them at all. I can tell this is going to be his favorite gym shoe.He already owns the previous edition of this shoe (XT Wings 2) and has been very happy with those but they're getting worn out. We were pleased these fit as well. Out of the 5 different Salomon styles we tried out, this style and the XA Pro 3D Ultra 2 GTX seems to be the widest and most comfortable for my husband's foot. And this one was the lighter and more breathable of the two. We sent the most narrow ones back. We appreciate the free returns! Very easy to just drop off and go.We love the laces (I also wear Salomons). I prefer them for the laces myself. There is an insert on the tongue to tuck them in if they are too long.

Wish all my shoes could be Salomons
Back when I had money, I could buy Salomons without too much thought. Now, I have so many pairs of athletic shoes that are in pristine condition, I'm not willing to shell out $140.00 which is what these retail for. At some point, these will become trail shoes, but for now, they are gym shoes, which means I wear them for about an hour and a half at a time. I suspect I could wear them for several hours comfortably, but once I'm done at the gym it's into street shoes. As for arch support, I didn't notice too much or too little. These came up on an insane sale here on Amazon ($45.00) and even though I didn't need them and have Asics in these exact colors, I bought these anyway as that price point is my sweet spot..THAT'S how much I love Salomons. For trail and light hiking, the sole pattern is grippy and effective for minimal slips, though it would be nice if the tread would last a little longer (but that's just me being frugal talking).

Highly Recommended for running on dirt trails/roads.
I used the Shoe Finder tool at Runners World's website, and they recommended these. I had a pair of K-Swiss Tubes that I liked a lot, but they kind of fell apart quick. And then I got some Puma's but they were just too narrow and hurt my feet. So I was looking for something new. I got these to go on afternoon runs in. I run around the on some old dirt roads that are in poor condition and full of bumps and potholes. But these work great. My feet haven't hurt at all in them. They fit great, the slide for the laces to tighten them up works well, and is easy and quick. They seem to wrap around my foot well, and offer a lot of support and cushioning. I also like how the tongue is attached all the way up the sides to the rest of the shoe, hard for any dirt to sneak in. I'm sold on them and will be getting another pair once I wear these ones out.

Snug more than narrow, consider why you are buying them
I actually think they're pretty true to size. If you're true in your size they should be OK, but realize a) they need to break in some (includes loosening up the fit a bit) b) the fit should be snug on trail shoes, except in the toe box and I would say I have had bigger toe boxes but the XT's still-biggish toe boxes suffice. Have read people say they are narrow or 1/2 size too small but honestly I think the 1/2 size larger is way too larger (heel slipping right out of the box on the showroom floor). I'm true to my size and have owned a handful of Salomons, all true fitting. My socks are neither thick nor thin. They may be overkill for your terrain. If your trails are not overly technical and usually dry you might be able to get by fine w/ a lighter shoe (such as the XR Mission).

The shoe built for bigger runners
I have been looking for a solid pair of running shoes for the last few years, I read a lot of positive reviews on different brands. The writer of most reviews I read would mention his or her weight, I would get a chuckle out loud of the guy that said he was a big or large runner and mentions his height 6' 3" and weight at 185 pounds. Thats not big thats average. I am a bigger guy 6' 2" and weigh in at 235 pounds. A long time ago I play football in college for a division 1 school, I was an inside linebacker and over my four years playing the game that I loved I had both knees surgically repaired the left knee an ACL, PCL repair and meniscus and the right knee ACL, MCL and meniscus. Finding a pair of running shoes to fit my needs was rather difficult. I spent a lot of money on the most popular companies out there. The Salomon XT Wing 3 are the best running shoe I have ever put on my feet. I liked these shoes so much that I bought 3 pair, "I think Salomon discontinued them" . I run about 4 to 5 miles every other day and I ride the bike or do the elliptical machine on the others days. I know I don't run as much as most runners and my times aren't the fastest. If you are looking for a shoe that has a lot of flex and is lite then keep looking the Salomon XT Wing is not that shoe. However if you are in the market for a running shoe built for bigger guy, helps with over pronating, has a lot of stability, room for you toes to splay and an over comfortable fit this is the shoe for you.

Poor quality, will not last.
Don't expect longevity from these sneakers. This is the second pair I've purchased. The first literally just started falling apart. On this pair the plastic that tightens the laces broke. These are meant for men to use trail running the the forest, etc. Nonsense. They cannot even stand up to the torture a 45 year old office worker tasked them with. Garbage! I did not even get to use them for a full six months. Thank god I did not pay full price for them. The one thing they have going for them is the engineering. Great design, comfortable, etc. They need to just use batter materials, glue, etc. Hey, why not try to produce them here in the states. You're already charging a lot for them Salomon!

A little disappointed, I went to the manufacture website for sizing ...
A little disappointed, I went to the manufacture website for sizing information and measured as instructed and it feels somewhat small. I had measured after returning from my daily 5 mile hike. I have worn work shoes with toe protection before and it has somewhat of a similar feeling, my toe touching the protection cover. My issue is with the length only. I use running socks which are thin so I don't think that would help. Would like to try a half size larger, but again according to manufacture's sizing guide, that would be too large.

A comfortable and tough shoe, but lacking in wet-weather grip.
I got these as a replacement for my Salomon Speedcross 3 fell shoes. They are more or less the same basic design with good comfort and protection but a little bit tall for good stability. The sole is tougher than the Speedcross' but alas a side-effect of the tougher sole is the wet weather grip is totally non-existent. These are fine for dry weather and can be worn for a long time, but I will not use them in the wet.

Great Runners
I am very happy with these runners. The are very supportive! However, please note they are designed for X-country and not tarmac they are ok on dry tarmac but if the tarmac is wet..... wow very slippery.

Sehr angenehmer Trailrunning-Schuh
