Samsung Galaxy S5 For Dummies (For Dummies Series)

While this does help somewhat with my new smart phone (I used a flip phone for nearly a decade), it is missing some information details that send me back to the long lines at the Verizon store, waiting my turn to ask how to do this, or that, that I really had hoped the book would cover, like how to get a photo out of the phone and into my computer - I looked in the index for every type description I could think of to find this, no luck. It tells how to take pictures, but not enough detail on what to do with them once taken, except in the phone itself. But then I have to admit I'm a dummy who needed a book to learn how to use the phone - it took me 2 days to learn how to answer the phone, and another day to learn how to 'hang up.' But it has been some help, and I hope it will be more help, as until something comes up, I generally don't 'read ahead,' having better things to do that mess with a machine that does not handle the housework for me or do the laundry for me, but will tell me off when I hit the wrong buttons.

I was new to the Galaxy S5 and was looking for a way to find out the capabilities of the Galaxy S5 and this book covered that. You can't get training from the Cell Phone company anymore.

This book serves as a basic introduction to first-time S5 users...in most cases it simply tells what various features are rather than how to set them up and use them. There are a few areas where the author goes into more detail, for example phone security. In other areas details are lacking. So as the 3 stars rating ("It's OK") suggests, I am not wildly enthusiastic about it. I also bought 2 other books--Hughes "Help Me! Guide to the Galaxy S5" and Halbert's "Samsung Galaxy S5: The 100% unofficial User Guide". I'm hoping between the three of them I can learn how to take advantage of at least most of what the GS5 has to offer. Honestly, most of what I've learned has been through Youtube video tutorials...and they are free.

I liked the book especially since I am new to the smart phone. I purchased the Kindle version and the only complaint I have is that it is impossible to read the illustrations. I tried stretching the page but it does not stretch enough to be able to make out what the illustrations are trying to show. I have read other kindle books with referenced illustrations and the illustrations are large enough to be useful.I HAVE A CORRECTION TO MAKE ON MY EARLIER REVIEW...IF YOU PLACE YOUR FINGER ON THE ILLUSTRATION AND PRESS... ANOTHER OPTION POPS UP WITH THE CHOICES OF (NOTE OR HIGHLIGHT OR ZOOM) AND NOW YOU CAN ZOOM THE ILLUSTRATION AND VIEW IT IN A LARGER FORMAT.

I give this book a 3 star rating, as I needed to know how to set an alarm on my smart phone -- I need this as when I travel, a hotel clerk sometimes forgets to give me a wake up call (I almost missed an audience with Pope Francis in Rome last year). The book is very comprehensive, but does not have this piece of information. I got the answer to my question from another source. When the book is next updated, please include how to set an alarm/wake-up call.

This Dummies book saved my sanity. My new phone (my first) came with absolutely no user manual and the download from Samsung was such tiny print that I hated using it. This book has enabled me to find and use features I possibly would not have ever used. Somehow manufacturers and instructional manual writers assume that we all have had such a device since the first one and have learned as we upgraded. To come into this market years down the line without much guidance at all is a guidebook to failure and frustration. This well written, humorous book is in a prominent place, near my phone.

My last phone was a flip phone so using the Galaxy S5 was all new to us. We don't have kids to teach us so my husband and I bought this to learn more about the phone.It's rather simplistic.... written for the most basic user who really knows NOTHING about technology. I may not be experienced with smart phones in general but I am an advanced computer user in general and the first few chapters were common knowledge for me. The book has some good info in it but you can learn just as much about your phone from watching free videos on You Tube.

I'm OK with this book. It's as much about the Android OS as about the Samsung phone but I wanted to really start learning about how to take best advantage of my smart phone so I bought the book and read it cover to cover. I did learn a lot....

If this book is for dummies, I need one for total idiots. Thank goodness someone told me to "ask" Google for answers to problems. Easy to follow, step by step instructions are definitely better.

A very good introduction for the use of this phone. It is clearly set out in a no-nonsense approach, covering teh basics and some very useful tips about what one can do further with the device. Although one is invited to dip in as and where it appeals to you, it is probably best to read it through. As with so many in the 'Dmmies' series, it is an enjoyable as well as an instructive read.

Brought as a present for partner who has just purchased a smart phone for first time. Good for picking bits of information out of when unsure of a 'phone function'. Relief to have detailed instructions of how to use phone to the max.

An extremely useful book. Wished I ordered it sooner and it would have prevented me making a lot of mistakes and taking so long setting up my phone!!. Very easy to follow - Highly recommend!!

Excellent guide to the S5 - both as a cover to cover read and to dip in as a reference (which is normal for the "Dummies" series).
