Steampunkery: Polymer Clay and Mixed Media Projects

Another home run for Christi in the production of this polymer clay design book. It was rated for all skill levels and I would wholeheartedly agree. What I like about Christi's books is that she does an excellent job of demonstrating her techniques in a manner that even a novice could follow. Images throughout with written explanations, and demonstrating each aspect of of project with the tools needed to accomplish the necessary steps in a manner that a novice can follow is her strong suite. I love exotic textures and vibrant colors which is something her books gives you. There is never a dull page and you can be challenged in to expanding beyond with her helpful hints. The projects in this book are just charmingly playful, and not overly dark. What I mean is that many of the steampunk themes tend to give you that distressed look with more monochromatic color schemes. Although I do like them I love vibrant colors much more. Her nautical projects are just delightful and if you don't really need to have her exact findings as you can substitute whatever you fancy or have around. I took some of her project ideas and used them to make mixed media tiles, and color substitution was easy. I will be looking for more of Christi's books. Amazon offers many pricing levels and I don't mind buying used.

This book has some pretty cool designs and seemingly easy tutorials to follow. There are step by step directions with very pretty image examples to view. I like that it also provides resources to find items that you may be searching for in the back of the book.What I don't like is the binding, absolutely crappy. I purchased my book 6 months ago and have only looked through it a handful of times...half the book has come unglued and the pages have fallen out. I hope in the future the manufacturer will use a method to bind the book where it will stay a book...other than that, this book is pretty awesome to follow. I will still give it 5 stars since the binding has nothing to do with the author or tutorial, it's more so for you to be aware that you are buying a cheap book. Literally.

When I first got this book i must have flipped through it 20 times, each time seeing something new or a little tip here and there tucked among the impressively designed pages. I was, however, a little disappointed by how small the book was. The pages are very short and you really have to crank the book open to read all the information near the binding. I'm assuming that's where everyone is having the binding problem. I like the book enough to put some effort into converting it to a spiral bound or 3 hole punch folder. I haven't tried any of the projects yet, but I bet it will be a pain to keep the book open on the right page without placing a brick on the book or something crazy to keep it still lol.Anyway, the writing is excellent and very interesting. Lots of cute humor scattered throughout the directions keep it fun and light reading. Great color pictures and directions for mixing colors and materials. Overall very informative book, great eye candy with a perfect mix of projects and inspirational guest artist highlights. I'm very happy to add it to my Polymer Clay library!

This is a fun interesting read about steampunk, polymer clay and tips on how to embellish metals and polymer clay that I have not found elsewhere. It is loaded with humor to make learning fun!The downside is the book is poorly bound and as I read the pages, they separated from the cover. Despite this, I am enjoying this book so much, the sorry binding of pages barely detracts from the information and laugh out loud humor found in the book.If you enjoy working with polymer clay and you can relax and enjoy humor while learning about Polymer Clay and Steampunk, while accepting that your pages may separate from the cover as you read, I believe you will enjoy and learn a lot from this book. I recommend it.

the closest thing i've ever come to working with 'clay' was when my kids were young and i cleaned up Play Dough from every surface in the house. so, feeling a bit adventurous, i thought 'why not?'. the first natural step was to get a book from someone who obviously knows what she's talking about, so i bought Ms. Friesen's "Steampumkery Polymer Clay And Mixed Media Projects". i am well and truly smitten.the most intimidating part of getting started (for me anyway) isn't making the projects, it's getting all the materials necessary without having to hock my car to pay for everything i want. LOL to help with this, Ms Friesen lists her favorite places to buy the clay and other items used in this book, along with the URL to the website. well, that was easy, huh? not so much, because i wanted to buy everything i could from every website listed. i finally had to sit down and make a list, putting them in order of priority.for me to feel sure i can make something that will actually resemble the original is a real miracle. however, Ms. Friesen's directions are crystal clear, with photos for every step included. her sense of humor also goes a long way in defusing any hesitations i had about getting started.if you're new to steampunk/steampunkery, you really do need to have this book in your arsenal. i'm also going to be buying her 6 book series along with her book "Polymer Clay And Mixed Media Together At Last". I can't help myself! LOL

I enjoyed Christi Friesen's writing style almost as much as I love her imaginative and easy to make designs. I have made several of the projects and find that her instructions are good... I modified some of the ways I do things but only because of my work preference. As a long time crafter who has read many, many craft books and never bothered to write about any of them... I am happy to say this is the best I've ever purchased. If you enjoy steampunk or working this clay, this is an essential book for your collection.

(Libro in lingua Inglese) Utile per i principianti ma anche per chi ha già un proprio stile personale. Il libro è veramente ben fatto. Ironico, colorato, ricco di immagini, con spiegazioni dettagliate e utilissimi tips aggiuntivi. Ci sono le istruzioni passo passo per 8 progetti, ma soprattutto veramente utili i piccoli trucchi sparsi in tutto il libretto applicabili a qualsiasi lavoro personale.

Una magnifica obra de arte para los que nos gusten estas actividades. Muchas gracias por deleitarnos con tus libros Christi.

Leider gibt es ja im deutschen Bereich keine so tollen und ausgefallene Bücher ...Daher wird der Englisch-Duden wieder rausgekramt und übersetzt, aber meistens ging es auch so.Die Modelle sind ausgefallen und mich faszinieren schon immer die Steampunks :-)Mit ein bisschen Erfahrung mit Polymer Clay, Fimo und co. kann man die vorgestellten Modell auch nachfertigen.Nur leider gibt es in Deutschland kaum Möglichkeiten an passende Teile für Steampunkery zu kommen.Aber trotz allem kann man sich hier sehr tolle und neue Ideen holen.Auch finde ich die vielen kleinen Werke von anderen Künstlern toll, die in dem Buch vorgestellt werden.Es ist immer wieder erstaunlich was man alles aus Polymer Clay machen kann und ich gebe die Hoffnung nicht auf,dass es eines Tages in Deutschland mehr Zubehör für Polymer Clay geben wird.Ein tolles Buch mit jede Menge Inspiration :-)

je pensais que le livre serait plus grand mais tout compte fait c'est un format tres pratique car on l'a facilement sous la main quand on "bricole".. C'est aussi un livre très "visuel", rempli d'une quantité énorme de petites photos couleurs pour expliquer les étapes modelages de la pate fimo et insertion d'éléments métalliques..Il y a plein de modèles proposés ,mais aussi une très jolie galerie.. C'est un ouvrage qui ne laisse pas indifférent, le style proposé est hyper original ,on embellit ces modelages, et les photos nous font découvrir un univers tout a fait spécial, c'est très très beau!!! l'auteur christi friesen a concocté plusieurs livres du meme style classés par thème, les animaux marins, les dragons...Je suis tellement enchantée que j'ai maintenant envie d'avoir toute la série tellement c'est beau !!!! a consommer sans modération !!
