Good Will Hunting
The public and the critics gave this film honors. What more can I add. It is one of my favorites. It shares the struggles of a mixed up, cocky, "kid" who has a gift -- mathematical genius - but wishes to throw away his whole life because of fear that has manifested because of his childhood upbringing. Robin William and Matt Damon star, showing the need to develop trust between therapist and client before any healing can happen.

A truly moving film
Good Will Hunting is, by far, one of the best films that I have ever had the pleasure of watching. Damon and Affleck are a great duo, not to mention Robin Williams! This film is very down to earth and was very easy for me to relate to. I grew up in South Boston, and also fell in love once but would let the the girl into my heart. Every piece of this film, from the directing to the acting was marvelous. This should have been "Film of the Year". I liked Titanic but come on!! If you have not seen it yet, SEE IT, you will not forget this film and it's powerful message.

Reality in a script
Not many of the people posting reviews understand the world of an ACOA, or an adult child of an alcoholic. That is the utter brilliance of this movie. My background was middle class. I got it verbally when my parents weren't being negligent. Will was beaten like many blue collar kids. I was quiet and timid. Will's character was in your face. Either way, we live in fear regardless of how we express it. I pushed the love of my life away as a young adult. In the movie so did Will. I wilted and walked, he pushed as hard as he could. The brilliance of this movie is that they got the fear and anger right. They got the shame of an ACOA as well. Spot on. I am crushed when I watch the dorm breakup scene and I cannot help sobbing when Will is held by Robin Williams as he repeats "It's not your fault". We grow up believing it was our fault as that was the only way to bring any hope of sanity out of emotional chaos. While Will's epiphany must fit into a movie time frame, for the rest of us, we struggle until finally we can see. We will always have to contend with fear, anger and shame, but there is hope. We can learn that we are OK being imperfect while learning what healthy and giving love really is rather than being angry takers salving our emotional wounds. The uncertainty of the end is brilliant as well. Will he make it? We can root for him, but the real triumph is that he is willing to try, damn the consequences. I am in touch with that beautiful woman 46 years later. My path is uncertain as well. But I am glad I can try to be the person she needs and wants whether it works out or not. Love has come full circle and goes out instead of being sucked into a black hole of endless need. Yes, there is hope and if God's love shines upon us, maybe even a,second chance.
