Excellent product for all types of stairs without drilling into banisters.
This product works well on banister to banister and from banister to wall. I would assume it would work well from wall to wall. Also, it does not require you to drill into the banisters, which I liked.First, I had no issues attaching it to the banisters on the bottom of my staircase . The instructions were very clear and had it setup in no time. The only reason I gave four stars is due to having to make a modification to get it to work properly on the top of my stairs from banister to wall. Once again connecting it to the banister was easy and likewise drilling and mounting to the wall. The square blocks they provide to space the bar away from the wall when mounting it near mounding failed miserably. I ended up just removing them and it worked a lot better. The issue I ran into was my banister lined up right in the middle of the final step before reaching the top level. If I were to mount there, there would be a gap where my infant could crawl and get stuck between the staircase and the gate. My first idea was to just have the gate mounted at an angle or just swing past 180 degrees. This didn’t work well. The gate had to extend longer to reach the tabs, which made it heavier on the latching end, which caused the gate to not close properly. This is because the bottom tabs needs to barely catch so you can open and close where the top latch is where the gate locks. My final modification was taking a 4x4 and zip tied it to the banister is self. Then I hooked the straps and bar to the 4x4. This drastically reduced the length the gate has to be and the gate was able to close normally.Overall, I’m very satisfied with the product. My 3.5 year old can easily open and close it without issue. My infant is now safe and can’t climb on the stairs or fall down them. I will eventually remove the 4x4 and paint it. Just had to make sure it worked properly first.

Unsafe and quality issues
I ordered this gate and found 3 safety issues with the product as delivered, 1 being a quality control issue. Went to the manufacturer but they wont allow you to send a message longer than 400 characters to even come close to telling them. As I had thrown out all the packaging I wasn't able to return without making or finding a box so took a credit from Amazon for 50% of my money back and threw it away. First problem was bad sloppy welds on (A. Left Gate Mount) this prevented both of the (D. Hinge Bracket Covers) from being able to stay on. Seems would be an easy pinchpoint without them for little fingers. Second issue is if you follow the directions to mount one side to a wall and have a baseboard you need to use spacers, but they only provide 2 spacers and the directions show no spacer on the bottom mounting hole, this would leave over a half inch of sharp threads exposed and be right in reach of a babys fingers and look tacky. PROVIDE A 3RD SPACER. Third problem is if you plan on mounting to a wall on the one side and have a baseboard and need to use these spacers the screws then become comically short as in you wouldn't even get through your drywall. They need to include longer screws for this mounting option. I ended up throwing this one away and ordering a much more expensive custom made gate. Look elsewhere

Great concept, terrible manufacturing
Once installed it’s super easy to use and looks pretty good. Issues: my first one came in with the corner busted on the box and the hinge packed in that area was broken. Amazon was fantastic about a replacement. Second one came in and the very same part wasn’t stamped into the right shape. The gate still works though fortunately and there’s minimal impact to the functionality so I went ahead with the install and kept it. The instructions are horrible. Pictures only and steps missing in the English version. The French version of the instructions show when to use screws to secure certain parts, so it’s good that the instructions are basically dependent on the pictures (there are words to add important notes, but not much for specifically what to do). Overall if you can figure out how to install (which really isn’t too bad) and if you get one that was manufactured correctly, this is a great baby gate. Super easy to open and close, keeps baby from falling down the stairs. I absolutely love that it has a bannister to bannister option without any drilling necessary, something that seemed oddly hard to find.

Little difficult to follow instructions but good in the end
I am really good at puzzles and assembly instructions in general and found these directions hard to follow. I’m the end though we were able to install it to the wall and banister on one side. It seems very sturdy, however we used 2 3/4 inch screws instead to secure it into the stud. Also this only comes with 2 blocks for use if you have a baseboard and we needed 3. Why? Because our baseboard was below the lowest available hole, so we would have needed 3. We ended up not using one on the bottom (because they only provide 2) but it was fine, the screw is just exposed.

Solved A Safety Problem
I live in a two story house, in which there is another story visible from the back yard, but it looks like a ranch from the front. There is a staircase leading down from the main floor between the den and kitchen that would present a fall threat to young children or animals. We have two new, rambunctious Scottish Terrier puppies. I bought and installed this gate and it solved the problem. There are two modes of installation - you can either screw the hinge plate and striker plate into the wall with mollies, or use the included wratchet system to mount to the banisters. I used the latter. It is sturdy, attractive, and easy to install, all for less than $100. I am very pleased. ERSJR

love that there are no holes
Really wanted something we could use without drilling into the banister or adding an extra piece of wood. Easy installation - the gate is easy to open but also quite sturdy. you can push it shut from afar but after constant usage you will have to tighten the straps back up which takes minimal time. It also came with little foam pads to help protect/even out areas which was also really helpful for the grooved areas. Looks great as well in the space - solid colour - no plastic hanging off of it.

Easy no mess installation
This is, for me, the ideal staircase baby gate. No need to drill holes or make a mess. It comes with all the stuff you need to just strap it in place, then remove it later on down the line when it's no longer needed. It's quite strong and easily adjustable. The only downside is that opening and closing it is a little bit finickier than a more thoroughly installed model, and the foot that it sometimes has to rest on can cause scuffs on your floor over time. I put a plastic slide underneath it to prevent this, and just remain a bit aware of this potential so as to not cause any permanent damage.

DO NOT BUY
Super easy to set up however, it does not quite fit properly on my banisters. I had to stick the hinge bar to my banister using the additional sticky pads provided to raise it so it lined up properly, this makes the foot at the bottom not able to reach. WeUPDATE: the “locks” that adjust the width of the gate portion are not good our twins have figured out how to open the gate very easily as the “locks” don’t really lock in place and they can just shimmy the gate over a bit and it swings open. I’ll upload a video when I catch them in the act.
