This kit includes the Filter Adapter FA-DC67B and Lens Hood LH-DC100 for the PowerShot G3 x. The filter adapter allows you to mount 67mm filters such as UV filters, neutral density (ND) filters and polarizing filters. The lens hood helps prevent stray light from entering the lens, which can create lens flare and reduce contrast. The lens hood also helps protect the lens from bumps and scrapes.

Pricey, good to have, use with caution
Although this is a somewhat pricey addition, I always use a lens hood outside, especially when sunlight is falling on the lens, when I don't want lens flare. I did find, however, that using it inside, the size of the hood partially blocks the beam of the camera that's used to focus in lower light. So you'll want to not use it inside. Also, the packaging has no instructions and you have to figure out on your own that the internal ring separates from the hood and fits on the camera lens first, and then you need to depress the small button on the hood to attach and detach the hood. If you forget to push the button when detaching, the small ring will also come off. It is convenient in that you can reverse it and store it on the lens when you're not using it. I believe that this can be used to add filters on the front, but no instructions are given for it and won't use them anyway. Overall, it's nice that this item is available for this camera, at a somewhat steep price, however. It helps when shooting toward the sun, especially at sunrise and sunset.

Perfect Fit For G3X
This lens hood/adaptor combo works perfectly with the G3X camera. Although it does not come with instructions, it is very easy to figure out how to use it. A filter threads on the inside of the adapter, and the lens Hood goes on the outside of the adapter. You have to push a button to release the hood if you do not want to take the entire system off your lens.My only quibble about the lens hood is that it is not flocked like most lens hoods you would get from Canon.Price is not outrageous if you consider the fact that this fits absolutely perfectly, and is not nearly as flimsy a piece of plastic that you would get with a third-party lens hood (that most likely would not fit as exactly).

Filter Gets Stuck to Adaptor and Is Unremovable
This is a message I wanted to send to Canon, but was unable to, because the email support was not working. I did call and got someone to talk too, but he could not offer any help. He did not know how to fix it and had not even heard of such a thing. He was apologetic which is something I guess. "I am having a stuck filter problem with your Canon FA-DC67B filter adaptor and a Hoya 67mm. I have two of these since a Hoya filter got stuck on another Canon FA-DE67B filter adaptor as well. Each filter is stuck with the respective filter adaptor. This is for use on a Canon PowerShot G3 X Digital Camera - Wi-Fi Enabled. I had used the filters with a different filter adaptor on the Canon SX40 HS 12.1MP Digital Camera with 35x Wide Angle Optical Image Stabilized Zoom and 2.7-Inch Vari-Angle Wide LCD with no problems. Also another issue with this Canon FA-DC67B filter adaptor, if the filter is not screwed on tight and the lens hood is removed it removes the filter as well and can fall to the floor or sidewalk if one is not careful. This happened to me on more than one occasion. Fortunately, the filter was not damaged, and the second time it happened I was ready for it. Canon LH-DC100/FA-DC67B Lens Hood. Any ideas on how to remove the filter from the adaptor besides using a rubber band or a string or putting it in the freezer? Thanks." By the way the adaptor does work well with the Canon Powershot G3X Digital Camera.

Good parts but with no instructions
The only problem with this hood/filter adaptor combo is that there are no instructions with it. Having read a lot of customer reviews, I know that many people do not figure out how to remove the hood without removing the adaptor. Fortunately for me, someone wrote a detailed review with instructions. If you want to remove the hood and leave the lens adaptor, there is a little button on the side of the hood. I have not yet tried any filters. Except for the lack of instructions (reason for the 4-star rating), the parts work as they should.

Filters and hood can be used at the same time.
Compared to some of the previous lens hood / adapter ring options for cameras like the SX40, this is a great combo. It was unclear from the product description, but the lens hood attaches to the outer portion of the adapter ring. This approach allows for the use of the lens hood while filters are attached (much like a standard lens). There is a small button on the lens hood that unlocks it so that you don't unscrew the entire filter assembly when you simply want to remove the hood. It reverses direction so that it will fit over the lens barrel for easy storage (the camera with a filter and lens hood attached will fit snugly into a Lowpro Adventura SH 100 II camera bag).If you plan on using filters with this camera, I recommend also purchasing something like the Fotodiox 67mm Inner-pinch Lens Cap.The only negative of this combo is the cost.

If you want it, you'll overpay for it!
It works better than cupping my hands near my lens. It fits perfectly on my Canon G3X and I knew going in that it's a highly overpriced piece of plastic.
