We recently moved into an apartment, which means no garden. I bought my wife this herb kit and we're enjoying it so far. We did have a problem with the first soil disk we used. We added too much water and this resulted in a bowl full of muddy water, not a nice lump of usable soil. We didn't heed the "small amounts" part of the instructions. This, obviously, is critical. We learned from that mistake and the other three worked fine. We salvaged what soil we could from that first miscue, added some from an old plant, and we now have four pots planted. The basil and chives are already popping up, so we're hopeful the other two follow suit. Great product!

I have always been intimidated by growing anything because I seem to kill anything that I am gifted. I thought it might be better to start small and at the beginning (a very good place to start!) in order overcome my "black thumb." I saw this kit online, and the reviews were great so I took a chance.The instructions are super clear, and all of the items came packaged as described. I followed everything closely and after a couple weeks, all of my seeds had germinated! The Water Meter is particularly helpful, and I am excited to see Huey, Dewey, Louie and Herb grow to their full potential. Great starter kit and very fun to do; highly recommend!

I was excited to try out the moisture meter on these and other plants I had. I am now convinced the meter does not work. Maybe I got a defective one. Meter always reads in the dry to very dry range even after thoughtly watering. I feel like I justified the fairly high price of thise kit because it had the meter but overall find it a poor value. The 4 small pots feel like cheap plastic. Recommend just buying some seed packs and potting soil separately.

We planted the germinated seed 8 days ago and they are already sprouting. Yay!We even made a mistake with the first two plantings by using 1.5 quarts of water for each of the two soil disks! Duh! It made for a lot of draining work but we got there!Only problem we had is that the seeds are small so it is hard to plant and space the recommended number. We may have to to do some thinning.But so far, so good!

Just received this and everything is included as advertised. (If you think you are missing the dripping trays, check the bottom of the pots.) Can’t believe the quality of the packaging or of the detailed and informative instructions. It has everything you need - even the soil (the brown disks in the photos). I’m a little intimidated, since I haven’t had any luck in the past growing anything, but I will be following the directions to the letter. Oh, and the moisture meter? Really great addition to the package!

I usually have a pretty "green thumb" and have several house plants that have been thriving for years. this kit yielded some small shoots that died without constant watering which led to mold growth. I even sprayed the soil with hydrogen peroxide three times a day for a week (which worked well) but two days later the mold was back and the plants didn't grow much after having them for 2 months I had to throw them out. it could have been a lack of direct sunlight issue (the plants got about 2 hours/day of direct sunlight in my window and a lot of indirect sunlight during the day otherwise), but this is marketed as an easy "hard to mess up" system. I would think twice before buying.

Followed directions to the letter. At first the little seedlings took off like gangbusters. But now, two months in, only the basil looks like it has a fighting chance. So disappointing. Can’t figure out what went wrong. But I’m still nursing them all along, hoping for a miracle!

The photo is misleading: the pots aren't flimsy and square, not the sturdy, round, Terra Cotta shown. The bottom of the pots fall off every time we pick them up. But it's easy enough to get started -- we planted the seeds 5 days ago and by this morning the chive and basil were starting to sprout.

This is still a fantastic kit that comes with all the necessary parts. It even comes with a moisture metre to make sure your plants are well watered. Comparative to other companies, there's more plastic involved and they're a little more expensive, but still a fantastic kit for herb growing.
