Great Product, might be overkill for a lot of jobs
With this kit, you can re-key pretty much every Schlage lock. I bought this to avoid the hassle of dealing with a locksmith, understanding that it is overkill. For most re-keying jobs, all you really need is a "follower" (to keep the pin springs in place), a thin flat-bladed screwdriver to release door handles from the handle shaft, a second thin flat-bladed screwdriver to help release the C-ring on the lock cylinder, and a selection of Schalge pin sizes. You don't need this fancy kit unless you're re-keying a lot of locks or your making some of the locks "master key" capable (not a great idea IMO).But if you're unsure or what you're doing or are re-keying a ton of locks, this is the kit for you. Also, re-keying deadbolt is a lot easier than re-keying door handle locks. One comment - Schlage's instructions on how to release the C-ring in a door handle lock are nonsensical. With the smallest flat-bladed screwdriver you have, push the C-ring around in one direction until you see a little notch covered up by the C-ring. Push that smallest screwdriver blade into the notch to prevent the C-ring from rotating. Then using a second small flat-bladed screwdriver, push against the C-ring on the end away from the "stabilizing" screwdriver. You may need someone to hold the stabilizing screwdriver in place while you do this. The C-ring will pop-out a little bit away from the lock cylinder body and "stick" in this slightly open position. Use the second flat-bladed screwdriver as a "pick" and insert it between the C-ring and the lock cylinder body, prying the C-ring away. It should pop off the lock cylinder body. Why replacing the C-ring, a pair of needle nose pliers is handy to push the C-ring back into place. Also the small screwdriver is helpful for pushing down against the retaining clip which holds the pins springs in place, allowing you to remove the lock cylinder from the interior of a door handle.

Nice locksmith kit!
Nice "locksmith" kit. Everything you need to rekey the most common Schlage cylinder locks. There are lots of helpful videos on YouTube if you need free advice.

Schlage Keying Kit is a big hit!
This kit is great! I used it to set several Schlage locks on our house to the same key. Only recommendation is to enlarge the directions for those of us that have trouble reading very small print.

stupid simple
What a great kit, re-keyed 11 lock sets for about $20.00 more than local lock shop wanted to do the job when they could get to it and now I have the ability to change my locks at will without being at the mercy of lock shop scheduling. More than worth the one time investment if you have many locks to change or want to have a set with a master and user keys. Instructions were adequate for simple re-keying and the Schlage website has more comprehensive instructions for mastering a set of locks. Great value for my situation, pricey if all you want is a couple of locks re-keyed. Always better to have the wherewithal to do a job yourself than to be hostage to someone else's schedule and cost in my opinion.

Well worth the price. Re-keying an entire house was surprisingly easy.
This kit is a god send. I had never opened up a lock before and with this kit I re-keyed every lock in the house my wife and I just moved into. Maybe I'm distrusting, but I don't like the idea of anyone knowing where I live and how my locks are keyed, even a licensed locksmith. And it was great being able to do things on my own schedule.Once you get the hang of it, a lock can be re-keyed in very little time; 5 minutes or less for most locks. Schlage has re-keying instructions right on their website ("Rekeying Quick Start Guide"). They were clear and easy to follow and made the entire process surprisingly easy.
