This book is entertaining and thought provoking. One does ...
This book is entertaining and thought provoking. One does not have to believe everything, as it is presented, but the weight of the evidence is overwhelming. Chapter eight on "Video Games and Aggression: The Research" and chapter twelve "Follow the Money: Screens and the Educational Industrial Complex," were very informative and changed my perspective in a number of areas. Some may argue with the way parts of chapter six were worded regarding evidence connected with the World Health Organization but let the reader decide. Rhetorically powerful and a worthy way to spend a few days digesting print. My largest criticism is it can be purchased as an e-book even pages 216-18.

A must read for parents of screen loving children of all ages
As a mother deeply suspicious of the impact of new technology on children, and yet wanting my kids to be proficient in the technology they need to be successful in the modern world, this is an important read. The book explains how not all screens are equal - some are worse than others and highlights the dangers of particularly types of media on children of different ages and genders. For instance we might go to great lengths to keep our teenage boy off first person shooter games while ignoring our daughters instagram use which could potentially be far worse. I have been using the information in this book to guide my children's use of screens for nearly a year now. It is hard work, but knowing how damaging screens can be it is definitely worth the effort I take to make sure my kids have breaks, try to balance outdoor time and non screen time etc. I was even brave enough to leave the iPad at home on our first family trip overseas. My kids were perfectly fine with activity books for the travel time and just enjoying the sights seeing at our destinations. I am also observing the impacts of certain screens. For instance I don't let my children do homework on an iPad as I have observed they are much better focused on a desktop PC. This book backs up my hunch and explains exactly why this is happening.
