A Good Read
This book has no information on finding the third eye as the title states, and the whole book fell apart upon flipping the first page even though it's a brand new book, it must have been bound with Elmer's glue, but I consider it to be a required read before actually getting into meditation, and I strongly recommend it.The author was deep and with a no nonsense perspective. She pointed out that values plays an integral role in meditation in order for it to make a difference in one's life and I agree with her all the way on that. I recommend this book as a helpful eye opening point and a sensible approach to meditation. And she also points out that no information that we can get our hands on is 100% and I agree with that too. I consider this book to be far superior to Madame Blatvatsky's Secret Doctrine. It's just that it fell apart and I had to photocopy the book and staples the pages together. For that I had to take away one star.

Good starting point
This book by Vera Stanley Alder is a very good introduction to the western esoteric traditions. It was written in the 1930's and reflects a lot of the thinking in occult /esoteric circles of that time. The author comes from a theosophical background so readers who are already aquaintaned with this line of thinking might find themselves on familiar ground. She ranks definetly amongst the best of the theosophical writers and has a clear and precise way of introducing the assorted subjects in this books.None of the arrogance of some of her fellow authors of these days that tried to sign you up for their group.Very valuable as a starting point to the occult teachings.Although some of the ideas / information may seem a bit outdated it is still better than most modern day books out there. She definetly knows what she is talking about. Also check out "Shamballah" by Victoria Page and a book by the same title written by Jan v. Rijkenborgh the dutch modern day Rosecrucian.

Perspective
This book is well written. The language is refreshingly intelligent. The perspective, both intended and unintended, is enlightening. The fact this book was written on this subject in 1938 as a popular topic intrigued me. Her references to modern life and the dumbing down of western culture makes me wonder what she thinks of society now. Nonetheless the topic is timeless and she succeeds in giving that perspective with historical references throughout. She integrates astrology, numerology, ancient Egyptian culture and Christianity. The latter was referenced a bit too much for me thus 4 stars. "Don't shoot the messenger" rings true here as in ay book written by a human and not directly channeled from source. I enjoyed this book very much. It has given me a lot to chew on.

Mandatory reading to reach the higher you
This book is a window into what makes us tick as humans. It gives us an oppurtunity to understand how we connect to the environment and also shows us the steps to meet up with a higher plane of reality and consciousness. If you want to get to know who and what you are in a deeper way this book is for you. The knowledge is timeless and overcomes many boundaries that we place upon ourselves during are day to day struggles.

A useful read for it's historical value - but don't take it to heart. A few times in this book and the one that follows it, the author makes clear the prevailing opinions of the time: down with homosexuals, sexual freedom (even amongst straight folks), religious and racial diversity.

Good book in helping to understand the different planes that exist in this world and looking at the world from a spritiual perspective. Although from an african historical perspective some of the themes and ideas i would disagree with but none the less an eye opening book that should make you think.
