Product description im Henson vaulted Kermit, the famous floppy-armed frog, and his Muppet pals to the big screen with this charming 1979 musical adventure. Like the TV show that inspired it, Henson and director James Frawley playfully acknowledge movie clichés and conventions and allow the characters to address the camera in asides, like a Hope and Crosby road film for the 1980s. The ambitious singing frog decides to leave his swamp and conquer Hollywood, gathering a group of friends along the way (Fozzie Bear, Miss Piggy, Gonzo, and more) and bumping into oodles of guest stars making tongue-in-cheek cameos (my favorite is the tip-of-the-hat appearance by Edgar Bergen and Charlie McCarthy). Meanwhile, despicable fast-food king Charles Durning pursues Kermit, hoping to make him the spokesfrog for his Frogs-Legs restaurant franchise. Austin Pendleton costars as Durning's sad sack henchman while guest stars include James Coburn, Dom DeLuise, Madeleine Kahn, Steve Martin, Milton Berle, Bob Hope, Carol Kane, Cloris Leachman, Mel Brooks, Richard Pryor, Telly Savalas, Elliot Gould, Orson Welles, and Big Bird. Paul Williams penned the bouncy, song-filled score. Best movie ever ... Enough said

Wonderful, but would have aged better without the celebrity cameos
I mean, how many people under 40 even know who Bob Hope was? Still a great flick, though.

Nostalgic Muppet fun
Classic muppets with my favorite childhood song Rainbow Connection. Definitely worth $3.99 to have it on DVD. It was delivered quickly and in perfect condition. I hadn’t seen the movie since I was a kid myself, but still watchable for the new generation as lots of gags and jokes still land. Very happy with this purchase.Synopsis of the plot (SPOILERS): a talent agent hears Kermit singing Rainbow Connection, and tells Kermit he should be in movies. Kermit sets off on a cross-country road trip to Hollywood and meets the Muppets at various stops along the way. Meanwhile, restaurant owner Doc Hopper wants Kermit to be his spokesperson for his frog-leg restaurant chain, and will use any means necessary to make that happen. Kermit’s refusal “all I can think of is poor frogs on crutches” is one of my favorite darkly funny asides for adults, although it also operates as a straight line for kids. Once the group gets to Hollywood they make the movie that we have been watching all along. Singing, 1970s-movie-star-cameos, and tons of muppet humor, what’s not to like?

Childhood Magic (for Adults, too)
This movie is my childhood. Every Christmas -- or thereabouts -- it would be shown on broadcast TV (in an age where a young child like myself had no other option to watch it). And every year I would watch it, and enjoy all of the things children do about the Muppets. Now as an adult, I can report that this movie has grown with me. Now I can appreciate some of the underlying trepidation and melancholy that a child would never even notice. (How would you describe the tone of Gonzo's haunting desert song? And what do you suppose is the "voice that calls the young sailor," that possibly draws Kermit on to his own destiny? And why does the movie set fall apart in the final sequence of the film? These are not questions for a child to consider, let alone answer.)But forget all that. It's there, but it doesn't really matter. What matters is that this film is beautiful, and if you hold the beauty of childhood within your heart -- at any age -- this movie can reach you.

Disappointing treatment of one of my all time favorite movies.
I absolutely adore the muppet movie. I wouldn't have bought a blu ray of it if I didn't already think it was a 5 star movie. When I saw this on sale for like 6 bucks total, I had to grab it! When it came in I was surprised to see how low quality the packaging is.The front and back covers are pretty fuzzy, and it's near impossible to read the smallest print. The blu ray logo at the top looks weirdly smudged. The worst part about it is the disc itself. I was afraid I was going to break it trying to rip it out of the case! The best way to pop the disc out is by holding the case upside down, pushing in with your middle finger, and popping the disc out with your thumb. If you hold it upright and try to get it out with your thumb the disc will not budge! I really thought it might snap in half! Looking at the packaging now I'm shocked to see this is apparently from 2018.I thought the graphics they used for the title screen were a... strange choice. No disrespect to the artist, but when I saw a preview of them on my ps4, that really pushed me into "oh my god this MUST be pirated" territory. The pause animations are all just reused assets from previous projects. The movie itself looked just fine to me. I thought it was pretty indistinguishable from how it looks on disney plus, but I don't think I'm the best eye when it comes to those things. All in all, if you just want to buy this for your kids, they'll love it! But it makes me sad that disney seems to throw the muppets scraps when this blu ray could've really been something special. I'm glad this is something I bought for such a low price, but if a nice 50th anniversary edition comes out, I'm probably shipping this thing off to the nearest thrift store.

for the young and old, but may want to skip over some parts
Got this for my toddler son. He loves it. There are some parts I skip over, just not the most appropriate for young child. It makes me think, wow I watched this as such a young child and many hidden innuendo's that I do not remember seeing as a kid.It is a fun movie to watch with my son, and he enjoys the singing and theatrics- keeps him engaged and he laughs at all the right times, which is so cute.I will say, I had trouble with the orders, and am awaiting my fourth order- I have spoken with Amazon, through their CHAT option, and it was pretty easy to do, no problems with refund and the CHAT option was quick and easy. Talking to the people on the other end of the chat seemed easier than talking by phone.the first DVD came with a big scratch, the second came as a blue-ray rather than dvd, and the instant video i purchased, stopped midstream several times. In a few days, we should be getting a usable copy of that DVD. Keeping fingers crossed.

Essential viewing, essential owning
This is the Muppets hitting every pitch out of the park. This is the original crew, this is JIM HENSON, going on on the field with something to prove. Infinitely re-watchable. And honestly, kinda sadly, this version of the Muppets died in the 1980s. Kermit, Fozzie, Piggy and Gonzo weren't imitations of themselves, because they were themselves. Thank goodness this movie exists to capture their joy in a bottle, so to speak.

The original Muppets film - say no more
I loved this film when it 1st appeared & kept a copy on VHS tape that's now rather worn out so I was delighted to find this DVD version.Without a doubt the Muppets (and Jim Henson) totally transformed what you can create with puppets.Good clean family fun & totally believable characters living a proper story / life

Fun for Kids of all ages
I keep collecting DVD like this to entertain children that stay at my apartment and ourselves of course, they are a good alternative to greek TV if you don't speak the language. They are not expensive so I purchase one or two a year sometime more and leave them at the accommodation great hit with parents to keep the kid quite.
