NARS Pure Matte Lipstick Vesuvio

This is a bit drying but it’s a gorgeous color and lasts a while

Read a review of this lipstick and had to have it. I love red lipsticks, and NARS products in general. This is a perfect 'true' red that is gorgeous on.

I don't generally write reviews, but seeing as there was minimal feedback on a product I have come to love so much, I figured I should pass the good word along. I'd also like to start by saying that in the past, I have not been a major lipstick wearer unless it was on the more pale/neutral side (or I'd just wear gloss/balm) because I didn't want to have to worry about the ring around the lips as it wore off ...it just felt like a commitment I didn't want to have to think about.I decided I wanted to have the option of BOLD lips if I wanted to make a statement, and this specific lipstick was just what I needed. In the past, I always used MAC when using lipstick. However, I've always loved NARS for other products and I was lusting after their hot pink shade "Carthage" (I was also contemplating MAC's "Girl About Town").I was nervous about the "matte" factor. Let me just say it's the perfect balance. It does NOT dry my lips out (it will a little by the end of a full day's wear, but not to a noticeable by anyone else degree) and it required minimal touch ups! The color is VIVID and true to what you see in pictures. I loved the results so much I got a backup tube in Carthage (not that I am even close to running out of the first one, thanks to minimal need of repeat applications ...I just didn't want to be without) and a tube of Vesuvio for a nice Fall red.Like I said, the result doesn't look like a dry chalky matte ...just solid and bold. If you wish for a little more of a sheen, you can always add a little gloss on top. I used a nude lip pencil and didn't experience any issues with the color bleeding outside of the lines (phew).If it helps any further my coloring is: fair-medium (with some freckles) skin, blue eyes and I currently have red hair but will soon being going back to its natural dark brown (which I think these lipsticks will look even better with).Yes, it's costly for a lipstick, but to me it was worth the cost since it will last for some time and it's such an effortless joy to wear. Lasts all day with a bold and mattified color. Love it! Will buy buying more in different colors. highly recommend.

If you like a very, very, VERY matte burgundy red. Then THIS is the shade for you. However it was SO matte AND SO dark for my complextion.Probably will expire before I use it all..because I can "blot it all over my lips" and that is enough for me

and this lipstick is no exception! thank you NARS for this color, the staying power, and the lack of nasty lipstick flavor. hooray!

pretty color, great brand that i'm very familiar with for the eyeshadows and bronzers. I was directed to this lip color by a friend who swears by their reds. Unfortunately, I find that this particular lipstick is very dry, when you attempt to apply it onto your lips. it's hard to get full coverage at an even layer - beyond that, it does not stay on very long. Perhaps this works for someone in rather humid climate and has ultra hydrated, perfect skin. But very few women do have such skin and lips. Even with a layer of lip balm over the Nars lipstick, the shade just doesn't stay on, and you find that the color leeches into every crack, imperfection you may have (if you have even remotely chapped lips). All things considered, I would not purchase this again. A perfect red exists - this isn't it for me.

I own this lipstick in the shade Vesuvio, which is a great classic red shade that compliments my fair skin. The product itself is amazing...this isn't your typical dry matte lipstick. It glides on effortlessly and lasts a long time, even through meals and drinks. I can't wait to buy more shades!

Very nice lipstick stays on well does not smudge good value for money would definitely recommend.
