THE STARTER FITS AFTER THE TAB ON THE SIDE IS REMOVED. POSSIBLY THE LATER OR EARLIER REVISIONS OF THE ENGINE USED THE TAB ON THE PLASTIC END CASE NEXT TO THE BENDIX MINE DID NOT. SO, I HAD TO SAW THE TAB OFF TO INSTALL AND IT WORKS FINE. I NOW KNOW THAT THIS LAWN TRACTOR THAT WAS TEMPORARILY RETIRED CAN RETURN TO SERVICE.
