Let me start by saying the shipping was great. Took only a few days to get to me. Let me continue by saying that if you purchase this, you are purchasing yen press's translation and release of the LIGHT NOVEL. This listing is NOT for the manga, as so many reviewers seem to think it is. Perhaps they replaced the listing for that with this, but I digress. This is in fact the LIGHT NOVEL. Words and paragraphs in book form telling the story as it was originally.Yen Press did a great job translating the light novels. I have read fan translations and they don't quite add up to what you're getting here. This translation is great.Great for people just getting into the series, or longtime fans of the anime, the light novels are the original medium Durarara!! started in. It tells the story very well, starting from what anime watchers will know as episode one, and ending around episode 12. The series focuses on adolescent gangs, mystical creatures, and other inhabitants of a city that deals with these things. It's great, and when you get into it, it's much better than synopses make it sound.Can't wait for Yen to release the rest of the volumes of the series. Longtime fans have been waiting a while to see it translated officially.Quality of the book wise, the binding is strong. The pages are thick enough to not rip, but thin enough not to be a nuisance. The text is dark and medium sized. Color pages look great, and the black and white illustrations look just as good. It's a classic paperback, a little wider than I was expecting. Overall, I'm happy to have this on my shelf. It was worth what I paid for it, and DEFINITELY worth the preorder.

Yeah, I love DRRR!! The characters are interesting and intriguing. the story just keeps rolling. If you've seen the anime, this gives you backstory and fills in a lot of the internal story from the characters thoughts and emotions. Very much worth the price and enjoyable.

If you love the durarara anime series and want it deeper and in more detail, these are the books for you. The writing is great and the concepts about life are just mind blowing.

amazon actually used the Manga as a placeholder for the novel until it's release which is why the man's reviews. how've they have yet to undo it for some reason. got those unsure and looking at reviews to buy this is the novel not the Manga. they are not the same thing both as the product and adaption wise. the novels came first.I learned during college that translations can differ from person to person so as much as this is narita's novel this is also Stephen Paul's. and so far he's done an okay job. it's not amazing but not terrible, however I wouldn't know compared to the source material. so the translation is fine.as for the "novel" itself, I don't like the design. in not sure of the original design bit America has not grasped the idea of light novels yet therefore is a bit complicated. however I was expecting a "light novel". there is about 200 or so pages but that's not the problem. the problem is the size of the book itself. it's as big as a regular size novel but with less pages. it looks like a flimsy children's book. like I said it could be because of the nonexistence of light novels outside of Asia but the last you could have done was make it the size of a Manga and make the font slightly smaller if you had to. the closest thing outside of Asia to a light novel is a novella. and those are smaller than this. I would rather give it 3.5 stars because of this.

I knew I had to read the original novel after watching the show. I'm so glad I did! It was a very entertaining read that any fan of the anime or just a intrigued reader will find enjoyable. The shipping was quick too which is another bonus.
