Essential for long/long starters
Two are necessary for installing a long/long bolt starter on many GM vehicles, including our 2002 vintage Z28 Camaro. While not as easy to install as the original long/short bolt starter, the long/long is a more robust unit and does fit. Do not attach the wire terminals, or the snap-on heat shield, to the starter before trying to install - There is a plastic flywheel coverplate positioned by the starter and attached by a single 10mm (head) bolt to the lower bellhousing (see left photo above) which should be removed - With the nose of the starter in the coverplate hole, position the starter/cover in place and just start the two long/long bolts - By moving the starter up by hand, the coverplate bolt can also be started into the bellhousing - Remove the two long/long bolts and slide the starter back & down for access to the electrical terminals -Connect the two wires, battery power & ignition start, to the starter studs and the snap-on the heat shield to the starter coil- Reposition starter, coat long/long bolt threads with Locktite Blue and start each into engine block - Tighten both snug then torque in alternating bolt steps. I used 12½ / 25 / 35 ft.lb. (factory spec is 37 but I chickened out)!

Starter Bolt
Yes it's expensive. But it's a special starter bolt. It's has a knurled function on it. It should of been included in the new starter I bought.

Correct OEM part, do not buy the Dorman # 72004
This is the exact, correct in every way, oem starter bolt for GM trucks, 5.3 and apparently the older 5.7 too.The Dorman # looks up as the crossover but it is absolutely incorrect.
