I used this movie to show it as part of the cultural teaching about afrolatinos. This is an incredible movie based on the life of afrocubano ballet dancer and director Carlos Acosta aka Yuli. I also enjoy it at a personal level.

This film is a gem in that it gives the story of the barrier-breaking Black Cuban ballet dancer, Carlos Acosta, brings us into a fantastic and sometimes gritty view of Cuba, and has excellently filmed dance sequences. The actors are superb and the story is engaging. The filmmaking itself is exquisite.

Excellent film. It is really a work of art. The dancing and the music as well asa the photography are outstanding.Would have loved to have it available in US format. I used it for a film forum and everyone rated the film very highly. It also generated a deep and enriching discussion.

A good profetional dancer , the history very cuban . The actor excelent, the picture fantastic.I like the film and enjoy wiht my family.Thank Carlos Acosta for the film. You are the best.

Muy buen filme. La actuacion de Carlos y los personajes tanto de niño como de adulto son extraordinarias pero no se parece mucho a la verdadera historia de Carlos y como comenzo su carrera de bailarin. La historia no muestra algunas personas en la vida de Yuli que estuvieron presente cuando comenzo y tampoco muestra como llego en realidad a la escuela de ballet. El padre de Yuli en realidad no estuvo tan envuelto en la carrera de Yuli e incluso el ni siquiera queria que Yuli bailara. Estoy muy orgullosa de todo lo que ha logrado Yuli no solo en Cuba sino en el mundo entero. Es una verdadera inspiracion para los jovenes al igual que adultos para que sigan adelante con sus sueños y metas.

Yuli no es una película sobre Cuba, es un homenaje maduro a la juventud talentosa del mundo, a la niñez iluminada, a la paternidad y maternidad conscientes. Y es una película sobre el bien que el arte puede hacer a nuestros corazones, y a nuestras sociedades. Trata del presente que se dirige con valentía y dignidad hacia el futuro. De los sentimientos como motor de la humanidad. Y es al fin y al cabo una película sobre Cuba, la imperfecta, la corajuda Cuba de una gente que viene luchando desde siglos atrás por disfrutar del lugar donde el destino los hizo cubanos. Pura pasión escénica. Oda al color, a la vida, a los contrastes de la vida, a la mezcla, la raíz, la multiplicidad que somos, y al ser único y sagrado con destino al que arribamos. Poesía. Después de esta película lo mejor es hacer silencio, y esperar el momento de volverla a encontrar. Gracias Iciar y Paul, gracias Acosta y a todo el talento humano que pudo conseguir esta obra de arte.

Je ne vais pas révéler grand chose ici.En effet, cette œuvre est profonde, bien réalisée, d'une violente finesse qui ne laisse pas sans réagir.Je félicite la production d'avoir eu le courage de mettre sur pied ce projet que tous les jeunes et parents devraient voir.Les acteurs sont excellemment bien dirigés et les ambiances sont bien restituées.j'aurais préféré un Blu-ray ou même une édition 4K mais...je recommande sans hésitationTop Film.

For lovers of ballet a magical dvd. Yuli (Carlos Acosta’s life story). This DVD is insightful and you realise how hard it was for him to leave his birth country, family and friends to achieve his dream as a world class ballet dancer. I had to watch it all over again. A stunning dvd and a journey through a hard life to the glittering International stage. Hard work Yuli, and my congratulations and especially to the Cuban Ballet and those who encouraged and recognised your talent.
