Buyer beware
One of the selling points of this UV sterilizers is that it has a good reputation as far as the quality is concerned, however after about 1 year, the power supply went out. I thought it was the light, so got a new light, nope. It is the power supply. Contacting the manufacturer did not help, they said that just because it is over 1 year, I am out of luck. So 90 bucks for a new one. I don't think I would have purchased this had a I known that every year, I would be paying for a new bulb and new power supply. That is over 150 bucks a year, not worth it. Bulb I can understand but power supply too.

Its unsafe for use inside a building.
I had one of these on a 90 gal tank and the plastic housing decomposed from the light and cracked sending the contents of the sump onto my hardwood floor and into my basement. Cost me my tank thousands of $ corals and thousands $ of repairs.

Benefits of UV
Tip of the millennia regarding all uv sterilizers not only this one:Adding uv to a tank where an invader is in place is what everyone does, start running your aquarium opposite of what the masses do to perpetuate algae problems. UVs are valid tools of the trade like skimmers, pumps etc. they are good preventatives if you buy oversized ones, go big per your gallonageHand clean your entire invader first, including the cruddy sandbed if this is a reef, and install your uv on a perfectly clean system that you re earned not by something you bought, but by actually cleaning and exporting. When you make a uv fight grow back of an invasion that you removed 99.9% beforehand, you amplify outcomes in your favor. Clean your system, brush accumulation algae off your live rocks or if it's planted tank prune out the algae leaves, wipe the green haze off the walls etcChange a massive amount of water. After reversing every step that got you to an invaded condition, then install oversized uv. This technique can cure:Dinoflagellate invasionsCyano invasions especially, above all, fw and SW varieties all colors brown red black green orange etcThe mysterious white slime invasions that Walt Smith rocks conferDiatoms associated with new tanksBacterial blooms you didn't intend (not for carbon dosers, UV kills your export bacteria)Bryozoan invasionsHelps with valonia removal fragmentation controlUV light helps on green hair algae *via fragmentation control when suspended* it does not remove the anchors into the leaves or rocky surfaces be it reef or fw planted aquarium.you don't have to use a UV, but they have a 40+ year history in aquarium and aquaculture circles for a reason.b429
