Good Boys [DVD]
O**T
Maybe too realistic for some but I laughed out loud.
This movie is funny and maybe a little bit educational for some. I am a grandmother with an 11-year-old grandson. This is NOT a kid's movie, it is for adults, and if you are a grandparent or parent, you should watch it with an open mind and learn from it.This movie is about three boys who are friends that call themselves "The Bean Bag Boys." Everything starts innocently enough, but you quickly see how one of the boys starts being interested in girls (and all the things that come with that for boys.) He is invited to a "kissing party" by the popular kid at school (who is a big bully - think "Mean Girls" in 6th-grade male form) and manages to convince the party-giver to include his two friends. The boys start a quest to learn how to kiss since none of them has before. While trying to spy on the neighbor girl and her boyfriend with his dad's costly drone, the girl captures it and acts like she will not give it back; as the boys leave, one of them grabs the neighbor's friend's purse, and the chase is on.The only issue that I had with the movie was that they made the reason the girls so desperately want the purse back is because they had just purchased drugs. This scenario does provide the boys' opportunities to voice their disapproval of using drugs and a rather funny scene when they paintball the drug selling culprit. Still, I think if the drugs had something else, it would have softened the blow for some of those who did not like the movie. Be prepared for full-on language training in the way of four-letter words and at least one instance of using God's name in vain by the boys. If you can push past these two issues (which in reality happen daily in the life of 11-12-year-old boys despite their parents and teachers trying to guide them in the right direction), then you will probably enjoy this coming of age story.Other subtle moments stand out as messages in this movie if you pay close attention. The bully is probably the way he is because of his father, who drinks too much and has been arrested repeatedly for DUI's (a tidbit we learn from one of the characters when they are arguing). Max - the central character who is discovering girls (and himself) is caught in an awkward position by his father. Max's father doesn't give him a"birds and bees" talk, discuss what is happening with his son's body, or how boys should treat girls, but slaps him on the back and encourages him to "carry on," which is a little disappointing in the age of "me too," but is probably more realistic for most young boys and common father's "proud moment" perspective. One of the boys has very supportive parents, but they are getting a divorce. We watch as he at first tries to ignore it, but eventually admits that he is scared. And last but not least, the third character is afraid to be himself a creative young man who is talented and wants to sing. He struggles with trying to do the "popular thing" (the bully makes fun of him for signing up for a musical, so he backs out) or leaving behind his dream.Despite the obvious things that are disturbing to some when watching this movie, there are a lot of good moments here, and a lot to learn if you try to see below the surface.Watch the movie and judge for yourself. I think it was enjoyable, and I laughed out loud several times, and I am in my 60's. Maybe it is because I am not a parent anymore and can laugh at how growing up is always a struggle no matter what generation you are part of.

Funny Movie, but definitely not for kids!
I think everyone knows this movie with kids in it is rated R for raunchy. But that's not to mean it isn't funny. It gave me a chuckle. I'll watch it again when I need a laugh.
