Marvelous, penetrating
An exquisite book that ought to be read and utilized by every social worker (regardless of religious affiliation), chaplain, pastor, lay leader, and layman. And if you don't fall into any of those categories, simply as a thoughtful, caring friend. For the book presents vitally important keys to understanding and shepherding a person dealing with grief or trauma. Indeed the book (and certainly the author) portrays EMPATHY that is at once a skill and a gift.Get this book! Read it, ponder and savor it, then share its wisdom. It is transforming.

Terrific Book! Must Read...
Best book I've ever read on this specific topic. If you are a member of clergy, it's a "must read!"

Naive and overly simple perspective of trauma
The author talks in circles, seems to oversimplify trauma, and the way she approaches and discusses forgiveness is especially problematic and cringe-worthy. I think anyone who recommends confronting the perpetrator as part of the healing process has a very naive understanding of how trauma actually works, and to suggest such a step while blatantly dismissing the psychological aspects/the depth of the survivor’s experience of trauma is not just horrifying but dangerous. Less relevant but equally frustrating is her repetitive use of the word “insofar.”

A good resource
A good resource, but difficult to follow at times. The earlier chapters are informative and helpful, especially the chapters entitled ‘Rooted and Grounded in Love’ and ‘Prayers of Lament.’However, I found it difficult to focus through the final two chapters. Admittedly, this could have been down to my own faculties, but the content of the final two chapters became very technical, and, I feel, would be better suited to a course and a learning environment beyond a book (especially the final chapter on restorative practises).
