London's Pall Mall Clubs (Palfreyman’s London Series)

For people with an interest or obsession with the Gentleman's Clubs around Pall Mall and St James's, this is a must read. I dare not think how many hours that Mr Palfreyman put into the research for this book, let alone write it. So many interesting quotes from books that must have been hidden away for years, he has dug them out and presented them here for our pleasure. He has a very subtle sense of humour that had me gently chuckling. At the back of the book, there is an amazing appendix covering the clubs of the present, the past, and in literature, followed by an amazing bibliography of most of the books about clubland. Finally there is a stunning 'Compendium of Images' taken from books that are long out of print. I would like to shake Mr Palfreyman's hand. Thank you sir for writing this book.
