The Princess Must Die: Storm Princess Saga, Book 1

Let’s go find a hidden elven city below Chicago!
Just a quick backstory about myself- I have to be up at 6am to get ready for work everyday. I have an extraordinary love for and deeply value my sleep.I stayed up will 3am finishing this because I just could NOT put it down. The story hooked its claws into me and would not let go.This book is written so insanely well. It tells us things that have happened to bring our characters where they are but doesn’t give a true view of these things until the end of the book. So throughout the read you’re teased with these happenings wondering how they truly went down and finally you find out and you’re left speechless!Marbella is such a kicka$$ no holds barred character. She is strong, and willing to fight for what she loves, believes in, and knows is right! Her strength through out the book brought countless giddy moments to my life. She is interesting and keeps you on your toes!Baelan is my current book crush. He is such a gritty and hardcore character! What he has went through is amazing and he’s come out on the other side stronger for it and willing to be a total bada$$.At first I thought I hated The Storm. By the end of the book I realize I love it and can’t wait to see more. This is such a seriously amazing book and it will give you all the right feels while also bringing a tear to your eye and making you fist pump like an idiot at 2am.READ THIS and thank me later 😘🙌🏼

I'm giving this a 3.5
This story is set in a fantasy world where elves and gargoyles continuously go through a power struggle that has lasted many upon many years. The elves are beautiful, near perfect creatures while the gargoyles are said to be twisted dark creatures with a penchant for violence and death. Our main character has a title called 'The Storm Princess'. This concept was a neat one albeit a little odd too. I can get a feel of what the author was trying to convey but the whole setting and world lacked world building and felt a lot like juvenile ideas without much of a backbone to support the facts and ideas. It felt like something was amiss. A canvas with daubs of paint splattered haphazardly without the use of any brushes or tools to blend in the paint to create something pleasing. The main character felt two dimensional a lot of the time. You didn't get a good feel of who she was. Her likes and dislikes. The traits that make her who she is. She does have a backstory, or, well, a major incident that is revealed later on in the book but everything did not come together as cleanly as I was hoping for it to. You would assume the character to be a teenager based on how she is written but she is well into her 20's. It's like she doesn't know how to adult. The main character's potential love interest wasn't too bad, if not as bland as her. At least though he wasn't the typical arrogant male that we find (and love) in most novels. He was something different. Closed off, noble, trustworthy. When I finished this novel I debated about purchasing the next in the series. Usually good books will stay with me and linger in my mind until I just have to keep reading. With this one I was able to open up another book and be absorbed into another world without a second thought about this novel.

Good Stuff.
I was so excited, strong heroine, brooding guy, tension, no touching, because the character can’t touch people, so that made for some interesting dynamics between characters. The story was a clean read, no swears even. The trials were pretty neat. Loved everything the character had to go through. Then bam, one whole entire chapter near the end that is a sex scene. Pretty clean in the fact that body parts aren’t mentioned aside from breasts, but this was reading like a clean teen read and then there’s sex. The sex was well written and tastefully and meaningfully done, and quite frankly didn’t bother me, but if you are looking for a squeaky clean teen read, which you’ll think you’ve gotten from the look inside, you will be disappointed. But you can just skip that chapter. Anyway, it was an excellent story. I enjoyed the premise and the characters and I liked the whole storm command (guard). Just really good stuff. I highly recommend. Just skip that one chapter. You’ll know when you get there. The prior chapter fades to black before the sex chapter starts.

What Did I Just Read?!?
Ok, I don’t say this lightly, but this book has one of the best thought out plots I’ve read in a long time! The world building was captivating. The main characters were gut wrenching. The tension was palpable. This is probably the first second chance YA romance I’ve ever read. Some might call it NA, but the steamy scene was mild and non graphic. It was an amazing slow burn especially given the fact that the only steamy moment was a relived memory. But it gutted me... I kept hoping we would get some insight into Baelen and Marbella’s past relationship... and I was not disappointed. It just made me understand every interaction between Baelen and Marbella so much better. I had, of course, suspected the reason behind their underlying tension. It was obvious that they had been in love at some point. I think what killed me the most is that it’s painfully obvious that their love and devotion is as strong as it was when they were separated 7 years before, but politics, curses and protocol still divide them. I’m loving this author duo! There were a few times the descriptions dragged, but the overall story arch was amazing. Do yourself a favor and read this gem! It’s a breath of fresh air if you are looking for something with a new approach away from the basic and mediocre fantasy/magic novels that seems to be published daily.

Compelling story
This book caught my eye, as I’ve read several series by Jaymin Eve that I’ve thought were incredible (Secret Keepers, Curse of the Gods with Jane Washington, and Hive Trilogy with Leia Stone). At this point, if I see she’s involved, that’s good enough for me to give it a go. I hadn’t read anything that Everly Frost had written or co-written before The Princess Must Die.This story is incredible. The main character is a strong, take-no-prisoners type that has been forced to live a lonely life, and she doesn’t shy away when life gets hard. I felt it was really well written and developed. If I had any qualms, it’s not the authors’ faults by any means. The novel seems to be getting grouped in with a lot of the reverse harem genre (perhaps because of Jaymin Eve’s collaboration on Curse of the Gods), but this story isn’t a reverse harem to me. There’s a strong female lead and a lot of male characters, but only one male love interest. Jaymin Eve often has that type of scenario - it happens in Secret Keepers and The Hive. That’s not to say that this book isn’t brilliant; it definitely is. However, if you’re looking for a true reverse harem, this probably isn’t it (it’s also slow burn).

This book is the bomb diggity
Oh my gosh this book is awesome. From the first few pages it just drew me and had me hooked. This is one of the best books I've read in a while and I didn't want it to end. The main character, Marbella has a one of a kind role in the world this is set in, although she has people around her at the beginning of the book she's very much alone. We see her building up relationships and becoming more her own person. She also gets to rebuild a relationship with one smoking hot, and incredibly loyal male. He is swoonworthy.Seriously, this was my most enjoyable read so far this year. I have a feeling that the next book is only going to top that. The Princess Must Die is a five star must read book. Don't delay, pick it up now and see just how incredibly awesome this book is. I loved it!

I'm in love with these characters
Fantastic start to the series. I love both these authors and you can see both there writing intertwined creating a fabulous world. The princess is chosen by the storm and once choose is not allow to touch anyone should she transfer her power or kill someone. For seven year Baelen Rath has been waiting to be able to present his heart stone to win Marbella as his partner . They have to go through trails with other member of different house after Marbella hand. However evil is in play and she has to try and save the people she loves. This is an epic story through the trails with a cliffhanger ending.

Interesting world, engaging characters & the story moves with pace
I enjoyed this book but I didn’t absolutely love it & I’m still unsure why. It was set in an interesting world, the characters were engaging and the story moved with pace but I was still left a little “meh” at the end rather than “I must read what comes next”. I probably will buy the next in the series but I don’t feel the need to do so immediately or reread this so I’ve only given it 4 stars.

Unique and wonderful 😁❤️
The Princess Must Die is the first collaboration between these two authors and wow is it amazing!!!!! This is definitely one of my favourite Jaymin Eve series openers - it might even be my favourite!!!!! It’s just a nonstop rollercoaster and I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough to see what would happen next. The Princess is a very unique character with a special and specific role within her society that sets her apart and makes her powerful- she is an incredibly loveable character and the supporting cast within the story are wonderfully written. This is an absolute must read for all fantasy fiction fans and I cannot wait to read book 2. 😍 5 stars 😁
