Political Cooruption + Domestic Violence Vanquished by the Vigilantes
I always enjoy the Sisterhood books and this one is no exception. When women throw off the suffocating blanket of "women's roles" that society has indoctrinated from the cradle, and come together to work for a common goal, they can be wildly powerful. There are examples everywhere of women doing just that. Ms. Michaels takes that theme and uses it as the basis for her Sisterhood Series. Each member of the Sisterhood has suffered some egregious loss, largely because she's female and relatively powerless. Collectively these "victims" can reclaim their power, right the wrongs done to each, and carry their new found strength over to help others in similar situations.Once again Ms. Michaels tackles the corrupting effects of political power, a recurrent theme in the Sisterhood Series. In this book, the antagonist is the boyhood chum and confidant of the President who enjoys special status as the power behind the throne. The secondary theme is domestic abuse, another favorite of Ms. Michaels. The ever clever Vigilantes come to the rescue of the abused wife of the power broker and, of course, devise wonderfully satisfying ways to strip the power mogul of all he holds dear: his power, his connections, his reputation, and finally his money - the money that made all the rest possible. Oh if only the world really worked that way. It is immensely cathartic and satisfying to see evil-doers get their comeuppance!Although Ms. Michaels' fan base is women who are at least indirectly familiar with her feminist-oriented themes, the detail she includes about domestic violence in this case is not always common knowledge and may help some of her readers recognize signs of domestic abuse they might have otherwise missed. She paints a vivid image of what life as an abused wife is like. To those of us who have never experienced such abuse, it can be hard to understand why the abused spouse continues to stay. Ms. Michaels' makes it clear that leaving isn't always a viable option even when money is no object. By making her abused victim a famous celebrity, Ms. Michaels points out that even fame cannot insulate someone from this kind of abuse.

Reading this was like being invited to the cool kids' party in high school. When you get there, everyone knows each other and no one bothers to introduce you to anyone. You sit in the corner listening to snippets of conversation. Maybe if you had a chance to get to know even one person at the party, you'd have fun, but they all seem to be talking in a private code, and make references to events you weren't at, and people you've never heard of.They wear nice clothes and talk a lot. A couple of kids stalk each other on Facebook, There's a bit of catfishing. Some girls stick up for a friend, and get a lot of innocent people in trouble along the way, but they don't care 'cause, you know, their friend. They use fake IDs a lot. Someone steals a mean guy's stuff, and he gets pissy and drunk, but no once seems to really care because they're busy figuring out who should go out with who, and who should wear what. Someone falls in the pool, and there's some drinking. Slowly, you realize that these kids aren't really interesting after all, and, even though you stick it out until the end, you go home feeling empty.Other than that, Michaels still has a deft command of the English language and a fluid style. Maybe if I'd gone to the first party, er, read the first book this would be like hanging out with old friends.

Dumb
I came so close to not finishing this book, but don't know that I have ever quit a book once I started it. This is the third book I have read out of this series and, by the time I finished the other two, I really didn't even look forward to this one. I will not be reading any others in this series and will probably never even read another by Fern Michaels. A true waste of my time. Silly, inane conversations; ridiculous situations; disgusting vigilante mentality; juvenile, meandering writing. I don't know whatever possessed me to think these would have been good stories. I regret my determination to finish the books that I purchased from this series. Not sure it even deserves one star.

Another five for Feen
Anytime a new sisterhood book comes out, it is a must purchase and read immediately book. I've enjoyed all the sisterhood books but not all have been 5s. I like the fact that many of the core members were back allowing us to see their individual stories continue. However I found the new characters introduced added to the story. I can't help but think the sisterhood books would make an awesome tv series. It would enjoy the same success as did similar show Leverage which end too soon. The toughest challenge would be finding two women who embody the series stars Annie and Myra. I look forward to the next book which is preordered and sound like another 5 star book in the making

No Plot, No Conflict, No Character
Perhaps if I had read the other 25 books in this series I would have gotten more from the "plot" but I doubt it. The plot (if you could dignify it by that word) just went in one direction, with no twists or turns or insight. The characters were cardboard cutouts that could hardly be distinguished from one another. The bad guy was 100% bad, yet supposedly had complete access to a very important person. One character went into hiding for five years when there was no logical reason to do so. I don't know why I kept reading, except that I thought since the book got so many five star reviews perhaps something really interesting was going to happen. Nope, it just kept going in its one direction, with no conflict whatsoever. No more Bookbub for me.
