GOLD
I have many baby books and this one is the best one by far. It's up to date and easy to read with a great layout. The recommendations are written by real doctors/mothers and truly helps ease that pre-baby anxiety with helpful tips and "we've all been there" tid bits. I signed up for many of the support group suggestions and the best info on breastfeeding. I'm buying this book for all my expecting friends.

Helpful and straightforward for new parents
Easy to read book about the immediate issues you'll encounter as a new parent. I found myself going back to previous chapters as I needed a reminder about certain topics. This book helped save my sanity in the early days and then weeks after coming home from the hospital!

Grandma Refresh
It’s been 25 years since bringing home my own last baby. I bought this book to get up to speed on current parenting trends so that I can be a better support to my son and D-I-L. This was an easy read, and filled with lots of great information. Times change, so does the care of babies. We know better, we do better.

Fantastic Book
Wonderful book. As a first time momma, I found the book immensely helpful. It is written by doctors that arw mothers. They are very to the point, cover up to date questions and concerns parents are learning about, especially first time parents. I actually purchased it for a gift after finding it so helpful.

Essential guide for all new parents
I am a retired registered nurse, and virtually all of my clinical experience was with newborns in regular or intensive care nurseries. I ordered this book for a granddaughter and a granddaughter-in-law and their spouses; both families will have their first babies this fall. The book is chock-full of practical guidance and information that every new parent needs. Written in language that is easily understood, the content covers a broad range of topics that far exceeds my expectations. In short, I recommend this as a "must" first book for every new parent to read cover-to-cover before a baby is born and then to use as a reference when needed after the baby makes his or her debut.

Good idea, but badly organized and lacking key info
I thought this book was good until I actually had my baby. As a first time mom, I found a lot of the info helpful but the cutesy titles and repetitive info made it difficult to return to previously read info as a reference. There were a lot of useless facts in the book as well. As a new parent do I really need to know the history of breastfeeding and formula? No. Like most books of this sort, it could have been much shorter and to the point. Lastly there were things the book didn't touch on like soothing a crying baby, bedtime routines or treating cradle cap that you would think it would. You can find much more useful and relevant info via a Google search or on the What to Expect website.

Informational and Reassuring for First Time Mom
I bought this in combination with another AAP publication, "Your Baby's First Year" and was happy to find they don't overlap too much, although they have complimentary information because they both align with AAP recommendations. The other one is a jam-packed reference book and this one is much more conversational and easy to read cover-to-cover. I found it very reassuring to read as I prepared to be a first time mom. Plus I used both books to decide which things to put on my baby registry-- lots of helpful info on which sleep set-ups are safest, which basic clothing is needed, etc. There is so much conflicting info online, and most sites reference AAP recommendations at some point anyways so I felt very confident getting my information straight from the source by reading AAP publications.

Ordered it the day before we went into labor. it was waiting for us the day we got home. All new parents need a book like this starting off as a reference.

Good info! And fun to read
I really enjoyed reading through this book, great overview of what one experiences with a new born. I almost gave a five star but felt that at certain points there was some nuance or information missing. E.g. Would have wanted more discussion about breastfeeding, what is normal or abnormal when starting; how much pain is expected, what to do to prevent or heal. Overall fantastic ressource, just some bits and pieces missing... would be good to combine with information on the mother’s body as well, the healing process after giving birth.
