Dragonball Z: Season 3 [Blu-ray]

Best release to get for HDTV.
I know the purists are sharpening their blades on stones after reading that header, but believe it or not, I'm just a guy who likes Dragon Ball Z. It wasn't my first Anime, but it was the first one I really sunk my teeth into and stuck with way back in the day when Toonami was running first-run Frieza Saga stuff. I remember vividly the promos they were using when the "Trunks Saga" was about to air. Good times. Here was my dilemma. At one point, I had the orange boxes ALMOST completely collected and I thought they were pretty solid, but sold them off to pay some bills. Years later, Dragon Ball Z Kai comes along, and the pacing is perfect and I fall in love!--Until EVERY scene they re-drew popped in and took me completely out of the experience. It doesn't have that grit; it looks clean. It looks gross. It looks fake. I hate that I own them all; I bought them at once after seeing a few episodes and enjoying the pacing, and now they just sit there because the redrawn bits form this sort of pseudo "uncanny valley", like they took a computer and used a one-thickness digital pen to redraw the lines, color in the shading and called it good. If you've seen it, you know what I'm talking about. And then this BR release comes along. Honestly, I understand the frames are clipped at the top and/or bottom to make the picture have a proper ratio for widescreen, but I couldn't tell you which inch off the top of their head was missing from the original TV aspect, or which inch of the nuts is cut off from the bottom. It was very well cropped; clearly the impact on the overall picture quality is minimal. It's not like you see their mouths moving and everything from the nose up is cut off; if you didn't know the show was originally aired in 4:3, you'd never be able to tell. And this looks VERY SHARP on HDTV. The colors are a bit brighter... it just looks very good in HD. I have Dragon Ball on DVD in its entirety, and while I enjoy watching it very much and love it to bits, the black bars are kinda distracting, and there's definitely some grit. With this Blu-Ray series, it fills the screen and looks and sounds fantastic, and there's absolutely nothing taking me out of the experience. It's like it's brand new again.I will be completing this collection on Blu Ray, and it will be my penultimate collection of DBZ, until/if they decide to release a pure Dragon Box set in HD. I'm guessing that'll probably have to wait for the next super-HD format ten years down the line. But I'll be here.If you enjoyed the orange boxes, or don't really have a preference, for the price, you can't go wrong.

I forced myself towatch through its entirety and have to say it was ...
Even though this season had a lot of fillers, I forced myself to watch through its entirety and have to say it was quite enjoyable. Krillin, Gohan, and Bulma traveled to the planet Namek where they hoped to find the original 7 Dragon Balls. This was also where Piccolo came from and it was where his people remained for so long, it was their home. Unaware that their enemies Vegeta and Lord Frieza were also there to find the Dragon Balls, they began their search but as soon as they arrived, Vegeta's henchmen already made their way to the crew and had every intention of putting an end to them. Fortunately, Krillin and Gohan were strong enough to defeat the two intruders but couldn't stop them in time to protect their ship from being damaged in the confrontation. After defeating those two, Krillin and Gohan went scouting while leaving Bulma behind to fend for herself in case anything should happen. However, Bulma was able to create a home base for the crew inside a cave where they would remain safeguarded from the outside. In their search for the truth, Krillin and Gohan end up spotting Frieza's camp and sees all the bad characters working for Frieza and Frieza presently in the middle discussing plans to collect all the Dragon Balls even if that meant killing off Namekians who each protected a Dragon Ball in their home village. There was plenty of resistance but Frieza didn't care who he killed as long as he got the Dragon Balls. As the series progressed, the Dragon Balls ended up shifting between three different owners, Frieza, Vegeta, Krillin, and even Gohan. Not one person had all 7 balls for some time until Vegeta and the Earth heroes had collected all 7 but as soon as that happened, the Ginyu Force (working for Frieza) arrived and fought against the 3 others after the leader of the Ginyu Force, Captain Ginyu, took the Dragon Balls away to return and hand them over to Frieza. It was a tough battle against each of the Ginyu Force's members but fortunately, Goku arrived and took over the battle. Before or after Goku arrived, Piccolo and Kami were wished back to life and Piccolo was also wished to be brought to his home planet, Namek, to fight alongside his friends Gohan and Krillin, and surprisingly with Vegeta too. Piccolo was injured and was told to be brought back to Goku's spaceship while Goku handled the rest of the Ginyu Force's goons. He defeated them all but had some trouble with Captain Ginyu. Eventually, Captain Ginyu was defeated in a funny way and the battle remained between Goku and Frieza. That is pretty much the bulk of what happens with a lot of endearing moments for the Namekian people. At the end of the series, friends are brought back together by some miracle and the Namekians find a new place to call home.

SPOILER in reiview- great season and like the rest amazing to hear and see
great show and great season - for a more detailed desrciption see other reviews or my reviews of the other seasons where there is alot more detail.well people wanted more so they got more, littarlly. i can tell by the way the season ended (as in after namik blows up)they never intended to have anymore yes they probably planned to do short films or a film where you see goku come home and fight feeza one last time (without all the time travelling trunks stuff) and then all is happy n peaceful n then it ends (at least thats how i would have done it)the rest is good but just not as strong nore as charactor driven as the dragonball ones or the 1st three seasons of dragonball z, just feels like everyting after thats all about powering up (lit rally one episode of the cell saga is trunks powering up for a FULL 20min episode with a ton of exposition of stuff we already know, it constantly keeps showing up what happend in the previous parts of the saga n even reviewing everything that has past, and im not joking it does this over seven times throughout cell saga all through and beyond, even the boo n kid boo does this too)anyway i love the show its just that one thing has always been something i have felt about the show n its the only real negative really.

Dragon Ball Z season 3, Namek like you haven't seen before! WORKS IN THE UK
Dragon Ball Z on bluray is probably the best i have ever seen it! The show looks fantastic with no grain whatsoever. Alot of Dragon Ball Z fans complain about the cropping to make it native 1920x1080 HD. However, the cropping differs to the DVD versions as they spent more time adjusting the cropping so it is much better. The Artwork is fantastic as each 3 sets join to make a full landscape artwork, perfect for DBZ lovers/ collectors!Quite possibly my favourite Dragon Ball Z season and it looks incredible! Goku's Transformation looks as sharp and clear as ever! You'd be a fool not to buy these sets if you want Dragon Ball Z on bluray! Also i have to mention all of these Dragon Ball Z Bluray sets are REGION A and REGION B, Amazon have not advertised these properly, they WILL work on UK bluray players, i have tested it on my PS3 and my Bluray player.

The infamous 5minutes
glad i got this. another great volume in the series and has two things i needed to see again, 1) the begining of vegeta becoming good :) and the Infamous 5 minutes (if you've seen the freeza saga you'll know what i mean, if not i don't want to spoil it)Garlic junior saga next, probally the future trunks saga too (although that is about 4 episodes) and maybe the android saga? can't wait to see.

Dragonball Z season three
In my eyes this is the best season of them all.Gohan's never say die attitude is wonderful to watch. The fusion of Nail and Picilo is another very important part as well.I just love the fact that Krillian and Gohan take on frieza and do pretty well considering how week they are.If you are considering getting one season of DBZ, make sure it's this one.The summoning of the dragon and the fantastic battles make this season unmissable.
