Mommy and 3 yo both very pleased with this quality item. No more messy surprises!
This is perfect. Disclaimer: I am not a very feminine or girly-girl and neither is my daughter, to be honest! I'm not crazy about fashion or makeup but I do use a little bit myself. My daughter recently became fascinated with my makeup thanks to this darned episode of Max and Ruby that she saw at daycare in which the three rabbits play with makeup unsupervised and "get gooooorgeous" while making a huge mess. I was ready to slay the creators of this episode when I saw it as well as the daycare teachers-- thanks for giving my kid awful ideas right?? She is now saying she needs to "get goooooorgeous" when I have taught her that she is beautiful and gorgeous no matter what she wears or plays. My daughter is three and is too young to play with my makeup without breaking it or making a huge mess. After a few disasters taking place when she snuck away with no one watching to play with makeup, I bought a locking case for my real makeup and put this kit out in my usual makeup holder. I started referring to it as "Mommy's fancy makeup" and "Mommy's expensive makeup" and that increased the "forbidden-ness" of it and made her want to use it even more. I added some old makeup brushes in various shapes and cotton balls as well as a washcloth and nail file. Another trick: I took the eyeshadow applicator and the powder puff and wiped them with a little of my real powder and eyeshadow in similar colors. It worked-- the first thing any child would do when they wipes the eyeshadow applicator or powder puff across the surface of the toy makeup is check to see if the color came up. It looks now like it did come up and the makeup is real, and she is satisfied and pretends to put the makeup on her face. If it was still plain white I'm sure she would figure it out fast and get really mad! This makeup does look very real and convincing. It is basically foam sheeting (like craft foam) inside a convincing-looking makeup container. She loves to play with it. I recommend this highly for pretend play even for a child who is old enough to understand that it is not real. The case and the containers all look very real and more high-end than Mommy's REAL makeup, haha! I'm surprised that my daughter is this into playing with it. She uses it daily. Again, I'm not huge into pink and makeup and princess things but I don't want to discourage my daughter from something she is interested in as long as it's handled in a healthy manner (which I am being careful to do-- I don't want her learning ideas like, we are only pretty after we put on makeup). If I think about it, she's learning hand-eye coordination too, because she looks in the mirror and puts it on her face. That's not an easy skill even for adults (Mommy here still can't figure out how to round brush blow dry the back of her head looking in the mirror!). The containers are small and she is using fine-motor skills to open and close them. She is also learning about how to pick up after herself because I do ask her to put away all of Mommy's fancy makeup when she is done using it.

My Daughter Loves This Set but It Smells Bad and the Brushes Fall Apart
3 1/2 StarsLast summer, I came upon this makeup set as a lightning deal and thought it would be perfect for my daughter for Christmas! She's four, interested in makeup, and likes watching me put on makeup on the rare occasion when I do, so I figured I'd look for some pretend makeup for her. I found this set at a good price, ordered it, and she opened it on Christmas morning. This set of Little Cosmetics pretend makeup contains:- Four makeup brushes of various sizes with pink, sparkly handles- One tube of lip gloss- One eyeshadow pallette containing four colors (beige, light pink, dark pink, and purple)- One blush compact- One compact with powder, pad to apply the powder, and a shatterproof mirror- One glitter pot- One makeup bag to store all of the makeup that measures 8 inches long and 6 1/4 inches high. The front of the bag is a mesh material and the bag has a zipper and two pink handles. I didn't save the packaging material so I'm not sure where this product is made.My daughter opened this item on Christmas morning and she was pretty excited to start playing with it! I have to say, the makeup looks very realistic and she has had a TON of fun playing with it so far. She's four and still needs a bit of help opening some of the compacts but she's working on it. All of the makeup is fake and made of foam that is securely placed in the compacts so you don't have to worry about it falling out and making a big mess on your walls or furniture. The brushes feel like real brushes and are easy for my daughter to hold in her little hands.I've noticed a couple things that have prevented me from rating this product higher. First of all, when you open up the kit, there is a very strong chemical smell that smelled pretty bad to my nostrils. I don't think my daughter noticed it, or if she did, she didn't care. Once the bag was out of the packaging, the smell went away after several days so that issue is no longer present. The other thing I noticed is that the brushes have come apart from the handles but they pop back in and you can always use super glue to fix them.Overall, I feel this product is just okay. My daughter really likes it, plays with it frequently and that matters to me. I love products that encourage her imagination and this one does the job. I don't like the smell that came along with it and the fact that the brushes came apart, even though those faults can be fixed. I would think, for the price, that this set would be better quality. I really like the fact that my daughter has gotten a lot of play out of it since Christmas but the items feel cheap and the brushes fall apart. For these reasons, I've given this product a 3 1/2 star rating. If it was priced lower, I think it would be worth it but when it's priced as it is, I don't feel the quality matches what you get.

My dad got these for me when I was younger, around 2018. I still have some of the products and they have held up really nicely. They were my everything! I loved them so much and I think there worth the money!!

Best pretend Make-up for a 3yr old girl I've ever purchased!
I bought this as a christmas gift for a friend's daughter who was about to turn three and was very much into pretend play but still wanting to get into mom's makeup and "dress up" - I was stunned when it arrived at just how realistic it looked and felt! This was hands down one my friends daughter's very favorite items from Christmas 2014! She still is constantly playing with it and using it! In fact my friend has thanked me numerous times for sending it! She even asked if there were more items so she could "Expand" the "makeup" her daughter had. The best part is her daughter doesn't want to get in mom's makeup anymore because she has her very own!! It's makeup that no one else uses but her! And mom gets the relief of not ever having to worry about it getting anywhere or staining. It is all essentially makeup level (pharmacy quality not high level dept store) makeup packaging so an empty lip gloss container with the roller ball inside. So to a 3yr old at that developmental stage where pretend play is just as real as real play they are happy as can be because it FEELS like moms and the packaging looks like moms. Same with the brushes and the sponges. The "blush" and "powders" are just slightly shimmery material that has the look and feel of pressed makeup but is not at all makeup and there is no coloration or anything that is transferred to skin or furniture. The best part is that the makeup comes with a "grownup" makeup bag for them to store their makeup in! You cannot go wrong with this for any princess!!

Such a great product.
These are such cute products for kids. They feel so real, I had to check my fingers to see if anything came off. My sister loved them for her girls, she got some for another little girls birthday (5 years old).

Perfect addition to her play vanity
My 3 year old got this for her birthday and absolutely loves it! Looks just likes mommy's makeup without the mess. Perfect addition to her play vanity. A must have for little beauty queens who want love to pretend.

Daughter loves pretending with this. Some of the pieces ...
Daughter loves pretending with this. Some of the pieces fall out or come apart but I can't argue with the number of hours she's played with this over the last year.

Everything in this kit is made of nice quality, heavy
Everything in this kit is made of nice quality, heavy, sturdy plastic. Very comparable to the real thing. From a distance, you would mistake it for actual makeup.
