Great movie, kids love it!

I saw this movie as a teen for the first time and always wanted to see it again. I was delighted to find it on DVD. I was concerned about what the quality would be like since I have a 65" HD TV. It was wonderful and not at all grainy in appearance as some old movies are on DVD. It was delightful to watch it again and I chuckled through it many times. This is one of those movies of a father daughter relationship and of the daughter turning into a young woman. I love her spunky spirit and her tomboy ways and it is fun to watch her slowly change as she is unsure why or if she wants to. Lots of laughs and good hearted fun. It was even more fun knowing that the father daughter team on film are also father daughter in real life. John and Hayley Mills do a wonderful job of playing off of each other. Spirited and at times very heart touching seeing the love in the father's eyes and not knowing how to really show it. I think many that would like a movie about simpler times would enjoy it. I am so glad to have it. Thank you.

This is a fun family film. You would think you're watching a Disney film because the three stars of the film have done Disney movies. It's fun with a great cast.

With regard to the Spanish version of the movie: La Verdad sobre Spring The Truth About Spring 1965 Non-usa Format: Pal SpainThe product itself is a real DVD, not a burned DVD.  Unlike the Vault Universal Series "English" version which is burned to order, this disk is a real DVD, which has the original English audio track as well as a Spanish dub with two Spanish subtitle tracks.  I personally prefer the expected longevity of the mask based discs over the die transfer, and the onerous copy protection of the Universal version, which meant I could only watch it on my DVD player, not my computer.In choosing between the two discs, this is the clear winner - and the PAL video format  does not seem to be a problem for either my computer or my blu-ray player.

Liked the video a lot

I am a lifelong Haley Mills fan, I grew up with her classic 1960's and Disney films, and this is a missing gem! Too bad it's not available for streaming. I loved it! I'd say one of her most enjoyable movies. She's older (middle-older teen) in this, and it only offers more depth and romantic escapades for her fans! The setting (modern day pirate's boat & cove) and adventure, with her relationship with her old salt dad, and her budding interest in a handsome, young modern man from the city, is refreshing, the 60's appeal is fun, and her character is a rough & tumble tomboy that you'd better not mess with! However, she's feeling soft new feelings she hasn't experienced before, and the coming-of-age conflict is portrayed very well and really fun to watch. This is now one of my very favorite films of hers (along with Gypsy Girl). :) I had never seen this one before, so glad it's available on DVD at least!

I first saw this movie as a teen. Loved it and searched for a DVD for a long time. A few years ago, I saw it for sale on the internet and ordered it. It apparently was a pirated copy, awful in every aspect. Therefore, I was a bit reluctant to order this one. Am I glad I did! This DVD met all my expectations. The sound was great and the quality of the picture was good. Since this is an older movie, the graphics are not as sharp as newer HD movie releases; more like when the movie first came out back in the day. Digital remastering might correct that problem. If you are a Hayley Mills fan, I recommend this particular DVD because it is a copy from the Universal Vault and not a pirated copy from a third-party site.

"The Truth About Spring" von 1965 mutet ein wenig wie ein Disney-Familientreffen an. Die beiden jungen Hauptdarsteller, Hayley Mills (u.A. "Pollyanna", "The Parent Trap") und James MacArthur ("Third Man on the Mountain", "KIdnapped") waren bei Disney zu Stars aufgestiegen. David Tomlinson (der hier MacArthurs Onkel spielt) ist vor allem als Mr. Banks in "Mary Poppins" im Gedächtnis geblieben. Hayleys Vater John Mills (auch im Film ihr Vater) hatte für "Swiss Family Robinson" für Disney vor der Kamera gestanden (gemeinsam mit MacArthur); und auch Niall MacGinnis (hier einer der Schurken) war im Haus mit der Maus gut bekannt.Viele Disney-Gesichter also; und tatsächlich hat "The Truth About Spring", obwohl eine unabhängige englische Produktion (mit erkennbar bescheidenem Budget), ein gewisses Disney-Flair.Es geht um den liebenswürdigen Lebenskünstler (um nicht zu sagen: Schnorrer) Tommy Tyler (John Mills), der gemeinsam mit seiner halbwüchsigen Tochter Spring (Hayley Mills) auf seinem Boot in der Karibik unterwegs ist, auf der Suche nach einem geheimnisvollen Schatz und verfolgt von zwei rivalisierenden Banditen (Lionel Jeffries und Niall MacGinnis), die auch hinter dem Gold her sind. Der junge Anwalt William Ashton (MacArthur), der sich auf der Luxusjacht seines Onkels (Tomlinson) langweilt, geht bei den Tylers an Bord und wird so in den ziemlich verwirrenden Dreikampf um den Schatz hineingezogen. Außerdem verliebt er sich natürlich in Spring, die ihr ganzes Leben auf dem Boot zugebracht hat, wenig von der Welt weiß und gerade dabei ist, ihre Weiblichkeit zu entdecken.Der Zuschauer erlebt also einerseits eine Schatzsuche und andererseits eine Coming-of-Age-Geschichte. Diese beiden Stränge berühren sich natürlich, laufen aber dennoch weitgehend nebeneinander her und sind auch ganz unterschiedlich gestaltet.Springs Wandlung vom burschikosen Gör zur liebenden jungen Frau wird einfühlsam und realistisch erzählt - mit viel Humor, aber auch mit großem Ernst. Hier schlägt zweifellos das Herz des Films, und hier wird das Interesse des Zuschauers geweckt. Die Schatzsuche dagegen ist (genau wie die Szenen an Bord der Jacht von WIlliams Onkel) durch und durch Slapstick: der verschmitzte Tommy trickst die hemmungslos karikierten Schurken (vor allem Jeffries gibt dem Affen ordentlich Zucker) nach Belieben aus; und obwohl kräftig gedroht und mit Waffen gefuchtelt wird, kommt nie das Gefühl ernsthafter Bedrohung auf. Damit zerfällt der Film ziemlich deutlich in zwei Handlungsstränge von zwar etwa gleichem Umfang, aber sehr unterschiedlicher Relevanz. Dieses Gefühl wird noch dadurch verstärkt, dass die beiden jugendlichen Hauptfiguren auch kein besonderes Interesse an der Schatzjagd zeigen und zum Beispiel während der heißesten Phase mal eben beurlauben, um in trauter Zweisamkeit Vogelnester zu suchen.Das könnte natürlich ein Problem sein, ist es aber letztlich nicht wirklich. Man erlebt die wachsende Vertrautheit von Spring und William als die "eigentliche", berührende Geschichte und die Kapriolen der Schatzjäger als lustige Intermezzi. Hervorragende schauspielerische Leistungen aller Beteiligten machen "The Truth About Spring" zu einem überwältigend sympathischen Film, wobei Hayley Mills zweifellos die Krone davon trägt - ihre Darstellung der Titelheldin ist schlichtweg fabelhaft.Die technische Qualität dieser spanischen DVD ist ordentlich. Deutschen Ton gibt es natürlich nicht, auch keine deutschen Untertitel. Wer des Englischen mächtig ist, kann sich jedoch daran erfreuen, was kompetente englische Schauspieler (wobei sich der Kalifornier MacArthur ebenfalls respektabel schlägt) mit ihrer Muttersprache so alles anstellen können.

I have loved this movie since I first saw it. I definitely had a crush on Hayley Mills. The picture and sound quality of this DVD is excellent, given the age of the movie. It looks like they cleaned up the negative and it looked great, blown up on my 100 inch movie screen. Despite the price it was a great investment and brought back great memories.

Ordered this for my mother. She loved it. A movie that has been very difficult to find in any video format for decades and it has held up in every way according to her. If you loved this movie way back when, you will love it now. Newer viewers should like it too. I did.
