Who is Ida Thorne?: 1 (The Ida Thorne Trilogy) Paperback – 6 Aug. 2019

This is the first novel by Gem Solity, but I hope this will not be the last one. Her style of writing is engaging, modern, captivating and compelling. Unlike other Young Adult Readers, this book doesn’t shy away from difficult topics, the book is contemporary, cultured, cross generational and pulls a punch from the first line.In my review, I have tried not to include any major spoilers, as the book has many excellent and intriguing twists and turns, which I wouldn’t want to ruin for other readers. I would recommend this book to any young adult.A troubled teenager called Ida, turns 16 and has already had quite a life, struggling to keep control of her emotions. As well as dealing with her dads imprisonment and the mysterious murder of her mum. She’s had a lot to deal with. However, in comparison to the events that take after her and her grandfather, Tatty, when they move to rural Devon, her life in London beforehand seems like a walk in the park. Upon moving back to the town where her mum grew up, she soon finds out that everyone seems to know her, her past and her family. But the village is not quite as it seems and neither are the residents, Ida needs to quickly learn who she can trust, how will help her and who may be ready to do her harm. With each chapter, the level of mystery increases.For any teenager, who has dealt with some of the bigger topics in this book- death of a parent, imprisonment of a parent or more common issues, such as those that have needed a friend, struggled with internal emotions, and had to move long distance. This is a great read, it doesn’t glamorise prison life, but portrays the situation in a very realistically and potentially reassuring for young adults experiencing a similar situation.I am looking forward to the sequel to this book.

The minute I had hold of this book I was hooked, it’s one of those that you think, ‘Oh just another chapter before bed’ and before you know it, it’s 4am because you can’t put it down. Ida is the character that everyone wants to be or wants as their friend growing up.As a first publish, with amazing characters and a continuously interesting plot, Gem Solity has truly smashed it out of the park with this book, I am now looking forward to the sequel. Everyone needs Ida in their lives and for me I can’t wait for more.

LOVE this book. Straight away I was caught by the stormy cover, so I thought I'd give it a go. A new author means you have no expectations and so is exciting to see where the book is going to take you. From the first page I couldn't put it down. I have fallen in love with Ida and my only sadness was finishing so fast because I miss reading about her every day. I am now following Gem Solity so I don't miss the release of the next part of Ida's story.

I bought this book on a whim as it came up as an Amazon recommended title and the minute I started, I couldn't put it down. The story follows from the tale of Ida Thorne, a schoolgirl who leaves London and moves to live with her grandmother in a quiet Devonshire town, and how she finds herself crossing to the underside of life in a tale that challenges her understanding of who she is. Thoroughly recommend it.

Stunning debut novel. It's rare that I stay up until 4am to read a book but this had me hooked from the 1st chapter. A beautifully crafted intricate tale with a marvellous sense of place. The pace is just right and the characters so believable, once you step into the world of Ida Thorne you will be hooked. Cant wait for the next in the trilogy!

As soon as I started reading, I could not put it down, I read it from cover to cover in less than a week!!! I loved the cliff hangers at the end of every chapter and getting to know each character. I fell in love with Ida and I am desperate to know what happens next. Looking forward to book two.

I read this book in just a few days on holiday, a real page turner. I couldn’t wait to pick it up. A well balanced mix of thriller and fantasy that really spikes the the imagination with plenty of twists and turns. Thoroughly enjoyable and highly recommended. Can’t wait for part 2.... a real find!

This book grabbed me straight away, from the first few lines I was intrigued and couldn’t put it down. I loved the way the characters developed through the exciting plot, I feel I know them and the beautifully described setting. Can’t wait for the next instalment! Highly recommended
