Vary decent instrument.
This is a nice looking recorder about on the par with most inexepensive instruments. It is two piece meaning that the mouthpiece comes off in a separate part. More expensive recorders are generally three piece and this seems to be for two reasons other than the fact that, in larger types recorders, it makes storage more convenient. Three piece recorders are sometimes played without the bottom hole piece on though I do not know the reason one should do this. It basically becomes a different flute if you do that. The second reason is to adjust the position of the bottom hole for the little finger that plays it but I sometimes find this more of a nuisance than a help and it will not benefit a child much since it is one more piece to lose. The recorder joint is very loose and needs joint, or cork grease. Some recorders give you a tiny container of "cork grease" which seems to be a mixture of paraffin and probably a small amount of petroleum jelly. Just pick up a lip balm or chapstick at your convenience store. I use my wife's Bert's Bees which is in a tiny tin and which I believe is for chapped lips.Plastic recorders can be cleaned by washing them in warm, not hot water, and liquid dish washing soap. Many recorders come with a cleaning rod. This did not but if you check the Dollar Tree you may, on occasion, find a truly cheap and bad recorder with a rod. They also sell cleaning rods on Amazon but you can improvise something. On the rods I have accumulated on my huge collection of both cheap and pricey recorders, I use the sponge you occasionall find as a flat sheet used in packing items or even put on top of candies. Cut this in small rectangles and slip into the slot of the cleaning rod. Scrub inside with the soapy water mentioned above. The bottm hole of all recorders, the note played when all the holes, including the hole beneath the recorder, are fully covered, is the Key note of the instrument. Soprano recorders such as this one are in the Key of "C". All my recorders alternate between "F" and "C'" as the stizes go up.The hole under the recorder is an octaving hole. For the lower sounding notes it is fully covered. Then there is one note with all the holes uncovered. Then you half cover the octaving hole to play higher sounding notes. Charts will explain this and, though it is one of the hardest parts about playing the instrument it will eventually become automatic.Your child will learn in school that the first thing to avoid is sticking the whole mouthpiece in her or his mouth like a police whistle. Various ways of putting it to your lip will produce various sounds as will various air flows. The tongue can be used to break the tone into separate notes as well as the fingers. All these techniques produce various effects as does the amount of air and even the amount you open the interior of your mouth. You can even sort of "talk" while keeping your lips sealed and blowing.Your kid should learn some of this stuff in school if they take recorder classes. Have fun.

OK entry level recorder but lower quality sound than other Nuvo instruments.
As an entry-level recorder for kids, it's an OK instrument, and for its price I wouldn't expect more. The material is sturdy, durable and good quality. What bothers me is that having played other NUVO instruments, this one (and also the Toot) have a very lower quality sound than their flutes.

Super easy to use
Works great. Sounds good. I'm no professional recorder player, clearly, but it's easy to play and fits the bill for a cheap recorder to learn on. I like the fact that it's a subdued color.

Not the item in picture.
While the recorder was the model described and worked as it should, it is not the same color as pictured. The one we received is all black vs the black and grey one pictured. I know, it seems petty to complain about that, and it is but when you advertise something, you should honor it. How difficult can it be to change the picture to show the actual one a customer will receive. In the end we kept it because it's a cool looking recorder and it does work.

Looks Nice, Fair Price
I ordered this for my daughter as she is learning to play the recorder in school and wanted to practice at home. This recorder came in pink, her favorite color, so that strongly influenced this purchase. The recorder is sturdy and plays ok. We also ordered a wooden one from another seller, and to me the wooden one gives a warmer tone, at least as warm as a recorder can give, as they are kind of an irritating sounding instrument. However, the price is fair and it looks nice.

High Quality Recorder at a Reasonable Price!
Wonderful recorder! It is well made and of good quality material. It has good tone quality and easy to play. Fingering chart is included, so it makes it easy to learn on your own. This would make a good instrument for a child to learn from a music teacher at school or at home with the assistance of a parent, and as an adult, it was easy for me to learn on my own. A very easy instrument to learn to play and the quality is excellent and at a reasonable price.

The instrument works great but the cover ripped the first time my son used it. His teacher gave him a new one

... saying that I'm a recent convert and now a great admirer of instruments made by Nuvo
I have to begin by saying that I'm a recent convert and now a great admirer of instruments made by Nuvo. They're very well designed and manufactured with outstanding attention to detail. I already have two DooDs (their reed-style recorder) and will either be buying their Clarineo or their jSax ... I'm now waiting for details of the release of that latter instrument so that I can decide between the two.The Nuvo recorder fully lived up to my expectations. Its design if again a classic example of the company's attention to detail. In reality, of course, there isn't a great deal that can be done differently with the size of a recorder, but this instrument does have several unique little 'tweaks':1) The thumbrest position is created by means of a shallow depression with a dimpled surface. I'll try to illustrate this in a photo.2) The bell of the instrument has 3 removable coloured rings. If required, these can be removed by a teacher and then refitted as indicators of having passed a particular level of learning.3) The furthermost holes for what is usually the right hand little finger are on a raised 'hump' which makes them MUCH easier to locate and access.4) Similarly, the other double-hole which can case problems of access and control are located in a deeper-than-usual hollow. (I'll also try to illistrate (3) and (4) in a photo).5) The Nuvo recorder comes in both black and white. The white versions have a range of colours for the bell and rings. These don't affect the sound, of course, but they do make the instrument stand out. Nuvo N310RDGR Recorder with Case - White/Green Nuvo N310 Descant Recorder - White/Blue Trim Nuvo N310RDPK Recorder with Case - White/Pink Appearance-wise, the Nuvo recorder has a sleeker appearance than the traditional recorder. Again, this has no effect on sound, but it does somehow make the instrument look a little more modern.Although more expensive than, say, Aulos, Dolmetsch or Yamaha entry-level recorders, I have no problems recommending any readers of this review to give the Nuvo recorder very serious consideration. My single niggle has to do with the case in which it comes. I find this fiddly and less user-friendly than the traditional drawstring bag. So maybe 4.8 stars instead of a full 5? Muy buena
Un buen producto para aprender, para usarla como maestro, no es muy recomendable, pues tiene desafinos en las notas graves, pero muy bonita la presentación y el acabado. Hacen que sea una flauta diferente.
